Hey :) Lately I have the following problem: I do not know what career to choose, I'm not even sure in which domain. I am the kind of person who must have and follow a plan, so I can't just do nothing and hope for the best. I took some career tests, and some of them suggested the programming/computer branch, which is one of my options. However, I don't know a lot of programming, yet I do like it and mostlyunderstand it. But I also love reading and I have a talent for writting, but I don't think I could be only a writer (maybe write in the free time). My aunt also has a dentist consoulting room, and if I wanted it, she would pass it to me at retirement. So my question is should I follow a career where I have very high chances of succeeding (the dentist one, for my aunt would be there to help & guide me) but toward which I don't feel such a big attraction, or should I follow a career I would most likely enjoy, the one of a programmer? (Sorry for the loong post)

If you work on something you enjoy, you won't have to work ever again.

I would go with what you like the most which as I understand it is programming.

just dont only focus on careers that could help you because of the nature around you. Try some career you dreamt of when you was a kid. See the posibilities or look towards the job you think you will enjoy, that will not give you stress but the job that will make you happy.

I think that you should choose programming because you are well paid and you don't have to study as much as a dentist.

Definitely do what you want to do, not what others do, I couldn't imagine anything worse than being stuck in a job I didn't enjoy for the next 50 years or so - so follow what you feel you would enjoy doing.

I think doing something you enjoy is very important as long as you are good at it so look at grades and see what you are doing best in

Do something you enjoy then it won't really be "work". Plus, you're probably stuck with that career, so don't pick something just because it'd be easier to get through because you have help, you'll probably regret that.

Do something you want to do that would be fun and a great learning experience in of itself. Don't get a job where your gonna be miserable. If you wanna be a programmer be a programmer then.

Find a a career that you can realistic ally see yourself doing for the next 40-50 years.

If you do enjoy programming then get a job involving it!
My brother knew no programming, but he got a job as an IT security guy and now he knows 2 languages and bits of others and has got a promotion within a year :o

You can either go two ways:

A job that makes a shit ton of money

Or

A job that you truly enjoy

What I plan on doing, is doing a job that makes a shit ton for the first half of my life, then doing a job that I enjoy.
