Hey people, just out of curiosity, what's y'all's view on sexting? Is it really wrong if their your age and its consensual?

May 30th, 2013, 12:35 AM
Yes. If you send explicit photos of yourself and you're under 18, that's actually distribution of child pornography.

I find nothing wrong with sexting as long as it's with someone you trust completely. That's only with texts though, pictures are a different story.

Talking dirty is one thing. Including nue pics is another, and legalities aside, just imaging if the picture appeared on various dodgy websites, even if your face isn't in it

As once it's on their mobile phone, they can send it on to other people, and the next thing the picture is "out there". Trust is an important thing, but that can be misplaced. If they see you, the image is in their mind.

There have been bills which have attempted to legalize sexting (with pictures) in a few states in the US, I believe, but none have passed.

Never send a pic that you don't want all of your friends (and maybe the whole world) to see. Also, I've read that the mobile company keeps all sent texts in a database. I don't know if they keep pics too or how long they keep them for though.
So if you don't want anyone else to see what you have sent, probably best to think twice.

I'd do it but not to just anyone like my boyfriend, I would never send pictures, keeping them on my phone in a folder with a password on it isn't even enough, imagine it getting put on fb or something. The HORROR

No duh. He's talking about if it weren't illegal. Kinda like saying "Is porn really that bad"
Kids and teens aren't able to make many rational decisions, I know there have been many times I've wanted to sext or do something like that just because I'm so horny. But then when I'm not I can think more rationally and say "that would've Been stupid as fuck". Adults are able to make more rational decisions because they aren't driven by hormones like teenagers are.

If they want to do it let them, if they want to risk sending pictures or texts like that then it's their fault. I don't really think it's right but I think teenagers should know enough about whether to send it or not if you know what I mean

Pictures are forever, once it's sent out you really have no idea where it's going to end up or if it will ever come back to haunt you. I know somebody who has a picture of himself floating around on the internet and he'll never be able to get that back.

Sexting is one thing....but sending pictures is much, much worse. Like others have said - you have no idea what will happen to picture of yourself once you send them. No matter how much the other person promises that it's private and they would never share, I would never do that and I highly discourage it. Your pics that you send to your loving bf/gf/friend in general could end up in anyone's hands or on any website, and there's nothing you can do about it once you hit send.

if the the police decide for whatever reason to go through your phone, yes you would be in real bad trouble and they can even read the stuff you have deleted

Doesn't matter if it's consensual, it's child pornography. If it was posted to the internet and forwarded to the wrong person, you could be arrested, or a 50 year old pedo could find you.

The data is still there and can be recovered even if you delete the images, it's extremely hard to completely destroy the data. If the police think you have child porn or something illegal, they can use programs to search your hard drive for the images even if they've been deleted.

You absolutely can. Any time you send, exchange, and/or receive a nude image of a minor, you are in possession of child pornography. Even though snapchats "expire" I'm sure there's a way they can be reaccessed should a government official find your phone.

I find sexting wrong if you're under the age of 18, because you can be legally tried for that.
Past that age, go ahead. You know the consequences if the person you're sexting with happens to get angry at you or is not completely trustworthy.

Chris. That is very bad idea. I mean, I'm sure your girlfriend is a nice person, however what if something happens like you break up, maybe a rough break up. Or what if someone stole your phone. Would you be comfortable with these photos on Facebook?
And even if you delete them, the files are still recoverable on your or her phone unless something else is saved over the data.
Bottom line is that this is a really dangerous thing to do for your reputation (and possibly could have legal consequences). I highly discourage your from doing this in the future.

Child pornography laws are meant to protect children, it makes absolutely no sense to use them against children. Such 'sexting' should be legal. Whatever harm is done to the people in question is completely their fault and is deserved.

I agree except that I wouldn't go so far to say that they deserve it if it goes wrong. And honestly, just look at all the pictures on Tumbr, even if a pic got posted it would be completely drowned out, who in the world is going to notice any particular person? They would have to be scouring 24 hours a day to find it.

I'm not advertising my goodies via text regardless. I just have this affliction commonly known as self-worth and self-respect. I don't feel the need to get cheap titillation through pictures and text messages -- I'm about cuddling, yah know, and my phone is a bit emotionless and robotic when it comes to that, if yah know what I mean. Honestly though, why would anyone send pictures of themselves knowing good and damn well their mom or dad is in their contacts too, and one slip of the finger you could scar them for life? Not taking into account the perv on the other ends intentions. Once their hand is out of their pants and they've achieved what they needed, they could easily turn around and send that shizz to Mr. Internet, then your wee littull Johnson or Nancy is out there for everyone and their grandmother to see. And you don't know about grandmas these days; my grandma's yahoo email is "sexicrook" or something like that. I kind of think it's disgusting and will lower your self-respect. I'll stick to the old fashion "must buy two goats for my father and know how to read" sort of prude thinking and tradition before anyone gets to see anything.
I say STOP. DROP. PULL BACK UP YOUR TOP.

I recognize that email. So that's who I've been talking to. She's been catfishing me and using your pics, too. That sly old devil....gotta love her.
Damn, I knew something was up when she kept frequently asking me for updated pictures. I was like "Why, Maw Maw? I see you once a week so you see me more than I see myself." Then she did the shifty eyes. You know the ones, that says I'm guilty but I'm going to look around as though I'll find a good excuse as to why I asked my granddaughter for multiple pictures. Then she asked me if she could have just one in this new bathing suit she bought me, to see how it fit, as she simultaneously handed me a bag. And I just stared and slowly backed away holding the bag while she was giving me a death stare to my face then doing that "I've got my eyes on you" gesture. So yeah, watch out for her. She's a deviant; even aarp stopped sending her things out of fear.
-------------------------------------------------
Like previously stated, you leave an essentially erasable print everywhere, like a skunk basically. So, seriously think about what you're doing before you do it. Advertise your body in lots and lots of clothes. I hear it's the new style. And anyone even remotely worth your time wouldn't ask for that sort of stuff, in my opinion. It shows lack of respect and wanting you for very, very few good intentions, but mostly bad. So send cute kitten pictures instead. Just think before you, yah know.
Joey.

Well, from a legal standpoint, if you're under 18, you are producing child pornography, and the person you're sending them to is in possession of child pornography.
If you are doing it via text, it's called child luring. It's an incredibly hard accusation to shake off if you are caught and not a pretty sight in your judicial antecedents.
Think about it two seconds. You're a teen. If you send nudies and the other person starts hating you, there are no guarantees he or she will keep the nudies for him/herself. We all know from the viral video phenomena that shit travels around fast around the Internet. They might get disseminated to everyone in your school, and who knows, your little pictures might end up in the 40,000+ pictures sick folder of some 40 year old pedophile halfway across the world. Or you know these silly ads that advertise "barely legal teens who want to fuck NEXT TO YOU AND ONLINE NOW!!!" with the pseudo-Facebook appearance that we all see on porn sites? You might end up on there too.
Basically, sexting is putting fuel in the fire of an already grave problem. It's illegal, and yes, immoral, and we should keep it that way. We don't need more pedo-fodder around the Net. The law is protecting you kids from doing stupid shit that could ruin your life. For once, don't go all bleeding heart liberal and accept it.
If you're feeling -that- horny, load up some porn and masturbate (when I was a teen it was Victoria's Secret catalogs and shitty TV softcore but hey, I didn't have Internet back then. People are spoiled now.)

Just know that the limit is certainly NOT the sky.
It's certainly morally wrong but it does make good for teenagers and young adults sometimes!
