mom finally calls me

as you may know I was exiled from home and not allowed to go back home because my mom disowned me. this morning she called and asked me how I was doing and wondering about my progress. I told her I was doing fine and found a flat with some friends and got a job. but it was a lie. she told me that she was proud of me and she will visit me on my birthday in july. I broke down after we got off the phone. I just don't know what to do anymore. In a bit I'm going to apply at places around me. I'm just scared that she thinks I am a failure when she sees I'm broke and living still with my aunt. I just don't know what to do

Personally, I would not lied, but judging by that situation you may have had a reasonable reason to do so.

Totally understandable breaking down, she is after all still your mum.
