View Full Version : A journey through Iran!

Eye-opening photographs that will change your preconceptions about the country forever!

It is perceived as one of the most introverted countries in the world with a policy of eradicating any outside influence from foreign nations.
But a photographer's stunning collection of images from his journey through the Republic of Iran offers a rare insight into what life in the Islamic state is really like.
With its tiny villages nestled into the side of mountains and picturesque farm land, which is rarely seen by outsiders, the country is as enchanting as it is mysterious.
But photographer Amos Chapple said the real surprise of Persia was not its untouched and beautiful countryside, but how different it is from 'western perceptions of the country'.

Iranians or Persians has always been one of the more democratic and freedom minded people since ancient times with an amazing culture and history. Only other countries in the Middle East that I can think of that is in similar disposition in my heart is Lebanon. A great land and people.

If you're talking about Middle Eastern countries that are moderately democratic and have generous freedoms, then I can think of plenty others: Qatar, U.A.E., Kuwait, Bahrain, and maybe even Oman. And by the way, Lebanon is no longer much of a democratic or free nation anymore.

Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and especially the U.A.E have been shown to have a sense of oppression from time to time. Do you know that Dubai was practically built because of slaves? Do not know much about Oman, though.

Also, I said "Democratic Minded," not "Democratic." A perfect opposite example is my dad's nation of Russia. Russians have all the ability to keep a democratic nation that is slipping, but not because the government is taking it away from them, but because the people really just do not want it. Take the Pussy Riot stunt in the Orthodox church building for example. Only 5% of all Russians say that they felt sympathy for them getting jailed for hooliganism. If such a thing happened in the United States, the worse they would of gotten was a fine. Iran has always have at least a small craving for freedom, and the Islamic Republic actually is not that bad compared to totalitarian regimes like Saudi Arabia or Syria in the region.

Lebanon has always been one of the more free nations in the Middle East, especially with religion (There entire government is based on specific members of it having to be part of a specific religion!) and in a sense, is kinda democratic minded while also being authoritarian minded. Kinda like Demanded Voting, It's democratic, but not.

Since a lot of years ago,the Persians have tried alot to reduce the powers of monarchs and let a council intervene in acts of government.Because you can see that, even before Roman Republic,Parthian Empire had two councils to choice the next monarch. One of them were for commons, and other for nobles and officials.

The majority of people in Iran are on side of Islamic Republic, but still in some major cities like,Tehran,a lot of people are opposing with Islamic Republic, but they are still friendly and do not want violence.

Iranians are more political than violent. They have solved their problems with other nations usually with trade or diplomatic solutions. The only nation which we couldn't deal with them politically, were Arab Conquerors, who attacked and destroyed many things.

You may have heard that with attack of Arabs people of Persia became Muslims, but not completely true. When Arabs attacked still the majority of the population was Zoroastrian. But in the era of the fourth Caliph,Ali ibn Abi Talib,Iranians began to convert to Islam dramatically.

The sanctions are not just for nuclear programs.Since the first days of Revolution,we had sanctions until now.It is just because we are against western countries politics in Middle East and with poor countries. As you remember,US and UK made a coup in our country in Mosaddegh's era,i mean before the revolution. They overthrow our people elected Prime Minister and brought back Shah to power so they became more hated for people of Iran.

I have nothing against people from Iran it's the fact that most are Muslim religious nut jobs that I dislike. Also protests are shit, we have a group called the EDL here that protest against Muslims they are seen as extremists. Protesting against certain countries is ridiculous and primitive in my eyes

I hate the fact that the majority are backwards and crazy about religion. If people are being raised in a country controlled by religious nutters its bound to rub off. I hate Muslims and when a country is controlled by Muslims that leads me to hate the population. If you need reasons I hate muslims do say so I can provide them.

I know racism hurts but that's not going to stop me being honest. I never go out of my way to say hurtful things but i will always be honest with my opinion. The middle east causes a shit load of problems for the world so yes I am prejudiced.

The first foreign controls of Iran began in Qajar dynasty,a regime which came on power by destroying a real Islamic government Zand dynasty.Even the poem of the poet of UN is an Iranian Muslim Sa'adi Shirazi:

Humans are peers of a united race,
Thus in creation, share the same base.
If one is affected with pain,
Others share the faith of same.
When you are indifferent to this pain,

Wow, Iran is actually beautiful. I'm really glad I saw these photos of people and places, it gives me and I hope it gives a lot of other non-racist people a nicer, better view of Iran, this kind of media you don't see these days, media promoting something seen better than the stigma attached to it.

If someone is racist, their opinion is worthless and should be disregarded as such.

Preach it.^

I'd love to go to Iran and get some photos :D

He's speaking perfectly fine and he's doing nothing wrong unlike you, promoting racism and having a really shitty attitude and behaviour.

No hes not, he's barely fucking legible half the time. He's talking a load of shit about his religion which is wrong in my opinion. I also dobt give a fuck if my attitude is shit, I'm being hobest and not just being some hippie fuck that attempts to love everyone.

Only because you're too thick to not be able to understand his posts. Frankly, I agree with what he says. You, your racism and your swearing is really not needed on a help site like this. If you want to shit-stir, I'd strongly advise you do that in a debating forum because this thread deserves to be about Iran and how lovely it looks, rather than some ignorant haemorrhoid cursing and swearing for no apparent reason.

Back on to the topic of the thread;

I must say, I really am quite jealous of the mountains, I wish here in the UK we had mountains like these, it would be pretty good fitness to walk to the top, and then admire the precious views seen up above.

As the OP of this thread, it certainly was not my intention to provoke a racist slanging match between members on here. It was simply to show some beautiful photos of a country that some of us know very little about.

The fact that we were reminded that Iranians (Persians) are not Arabs I think can be considered a positive contribution to the thread!

Exactly. What started out as a collection of photos about Iran has degraded into a bunch of insults - the most irrelevant of which being whether someone is speaking proper English or not (and by the way, I understood it perfectly...absolutely no problem there).

If someone is attacked regarding their religion or race, I would fully expect that person to want to defend themselves. Just because you do not understand them or do not agree with them - that does not make them wrong. In fact, I believe someone did a fairly admirable job defending their beliefs without being insulting in the process. You just have a difference in opinions.

If this thread does not get back to and stay on topic then I am locking it. Which I don't want to do, because it's worth talking about.

Thanks Allison!Okay get back on topic:
Well, the mountains are not the only beautiful things in Iran.In the north of the country, you will find many pretty forest zones full of green trees in the coast of Caspian sea,Also,in the south you can see the beautiful waters of Persian Gulf.In the center of the country, you will find yourself in a real beautiful yellow desert.Iran has many animal species,Iranian panthers are really famous and also, unfortunately, they are in dangerous and their number is limited.

You can see beautiful falcons in the desert and also,Iran is famous for some of its cities like Shiraz(Famous for its poets and poetry and very beautiful gardens and also, historical background;Shiraz is a carrier of ancient history)Isfahan(Very beautiful city and today, the main industrial city of Iran, and also historical background)...
