View Full Version : Hating Life

Lately I've been thinking more and more about how much I hate life, how meaningless it really is, and how I'd rather be dead than alive. It's slowly easting me away.

Every day is just another day I live a life a shouldn't even bother living; a life I hate because it is meaningless (as every life is in my view). We do things in order to get somewhere, but we really have nowhere to go. I may as well be dead for everything I can call "good" has no true value, and while that is the same for everything that is "bad", there is still no reason to live.

I view life as a void, and in the beginning we see a light; but as time goes by this so called "light" becomes dimmer and dimmer until poof, it's gone and we are now surrounded by darkness. What meaning does life have? What purpose do we serve? For every smile we cause will soon become a frown, every person we make happy will once again be sad, and every life we save will still be lost. Nothing in this world could make me happy, because everything in this world is worthless.

The only reason we exist is to merely exist, but our existence means nothing; and since are existence means nothing, we may as well cease to exist. Everything we are, everything we strive to be, everything we do, and everything we hope to do is a waste of time, because it has no meaning. I could look death in the eyes and yet I would not care, for I know that I am an insignificant fraction of what is an even more insignificant whole.

I want to die; I will live unhappily awaiting death. I have friends, a family that loves me, a roof over my head, and get good grades - life is good. But this changes nothing, I still go through every day sad, with a smile covering this emptiness I have inside me, as nobody other than myself knows I feel this way. If anything, every passing day is better because it is just one day sooner until I die, until this miserable thing called life is over.

I suppose the only thing that is keeping me from ending it is that I don't want to hurt those who love me.

Everyone has a purpose in life. You should try to find someone to talk to

I understand what your trying to say but there are things in life worth while sticking around for. they may all be temporary but its something to look forward too.

Please talk to a councillor or something. it may seem pointless and like no one understands, but you really aren't the first person to go through this it all gets better.

I know how you feel. I used to think like that everyday.
What helped me..Is beauty. Nature. Look around you, and look how beautiful everything really is. Life can seem very bleak at times, but there's beauty all around. It sounds strange..But it does help.
On top of that, everyone has a reason to be here. Thing of all the people who have helped you, been there for you, angered you, shunned you. They all made you move forward. Learn and grow, be the best person you can be, and try to change the lives around you for the better.

In my opinion nobody has a purpose. And beauty means nothing, nature is worth nothing,; nothing has any value in my eyes.

If nothing has any value, then there would be nothing. If it was true that it's all meaningless, then everyone would see this as truth. Then everyone would want to die. So humans would go extinct. If animals didn't see a purpose to continue fighting for their lives, they would go extinct too. So then there would be nothing. Maybe the purpose is to avoid that nothingness. Not every planet can support life, it would be kind of sad if Earth was capable of supporting life, and had all these natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, but not a single living thing to appreciate it. So maybe our purpose is to avoid nothingness, and appreciate the planet for what it is. It seems to me that if there is something there to avoid nothingness, then that something has great value.

Not every planet can support life as we know it or "Earth life". There is no way of telling whan an alien species might require for survival.

I believe we merely exist to exist, nothing more. That life happens because it can, but even so, there is nothing special about it. We are no more valuable than say a piece of lint (which is valueless), the only difference is that we have a brain, and with that brain many choose to believe that life has meaning. In my eyes, this purpose that they see is false, for it is not there.

And thus, I want to die. To me, there is no difference betweeb me being dead and me being alive (other than the fact of life; although that has no value to me). So why should I bother living if being dead is just as good, if not better, than being alive?

Even if life doesn't have meaning, so what? You can still enjoy it. So meaning is a bullshit made up term. You can still enjoy things you do, be with people you like, etc. and that's all you need.

think about it, what do you mean by meaning and values? Seriously, what d yo umean by them? You sound like you're just throwing those terms around.

It means exactly the definition of the words; that life (all forms of it) is insignificant and not important.

The feeling is growing and it seems to be more prevalent than ever. It's come to the point where I don't really feel emotions. I'm never sad, nor happy, nor angry, nor jealous, nor anything else. But it's all hidden under this mask that I wear everyday, where I pretend to be content to satisfy others, because nobody can understand the way I feel. Within me there is just an emptiness that I can't fill. I don't look forward to anything, it's all meaningless to me. The only thing I look forward to is my death. Why be alive and be able to feel the passage of time when I can just as well be dead and not have to feel anything?

I truly wish I was dead, but I'm to chicken to kill myself, and I don't want to hurt my family. But I really wish I didn't need to live life.

Sound like you have either psychotic depression or clinical depression to me. You have a good life, yet you see everything as hopeless simply because not everything you do will be memorable/everlasting. There is no answer to that statement, life is what you make of it. And if your logic was a truthful one well, lets just say there would not be 7 billion people in the world right now. You should kill your loved ones while you're at it since, you know, they're living an empty existence as well so it wouldn't really matter to anyone, right? But you won't, because you love them and you don't want to hurt them. That is something that is very real my friend, and something that can save your life time and time again like it already seems to be doing. Strive on what you have and what you can pursue, don't dwell on empty thoughts that will never progress you anywhere. Seek help from a mental health professional because depression is a disease that can be treated. This sense of worthlessness and suicidal thoughts are not found in logic, no matter the way you present it, but something much deeper and (in many depression cases) may even be rooted to the biological effects of depression. The first and hardest step to beating these thoughts is admitting you have a problem and seeking help.

I won't try to counter that with logic since it's true we don't know the point to life. Then again we don't know the point to death. I get what you mean that its like a sick joke. What helps me to get by though is just try to look at the human condition from outside view. I guess when you think about it, there are reasons to root for us humans. We push on even knowing our fate. We on occasion do kind things and for the most part don't fall into anarchy. Unlike other species we get to do decide for ourselves the meaning of our lives and how to connect with each other.

All of us try to get through life so that in the end we can look back and see how far we came. Our accomplishments, good deeds, how well we used our short time, and among other things truly be alive. To be living is one thing but to be truly alive is another altogether. And you can make life meaningful not in the grand scheme of things but definitely in the mind of yourself as well as others. Then they play it forward then suddenly you got the whole world in on it. Making your life more meaningful. Like a infinite loop or so I think. But you think life is worthless huh? Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life. The answer to the meaning of life in general is too profound to be known and understood because it is different for everyone. Try to find yours dude and don't be so emotionless. Keep forging ahead because you may never know what may be ahead. Don't let anything let you steer off the path of being alive and if you still think life is worthless doesn't mean you shouldn't cease to exist or need to be sad. Just bask in the simple joy of living and live it to the max.

You will live an unhappy life until you accept God. God created us to love him and give him honor and glory. But really you won't "live" unless you give your life to god. Come on, there's nothing to lose, why not accept that you have a reason and live your life for Christ.

No offense to you, I respect your religious beliefs, but I would prefer you not preach to me in order to help me. I do not believe in a God, nor do I ever plan on doing so.
