I have to agree with this. Freddy is a god. How is it even possible to have a 5-octave singing range?

I think my favorite voice is Tim McIlrath. He just has a way of conveying such powerful emotions through his voice.

Another favorite is Trent Reznor. Once again, such a powerful voice in every emotion.

Pure "music" standpoint though, Freddie Mercury.

Nice to see him mentioned.

This thread so far is decidedly biased towards rock and power vocalists. I'll throw Johnny Horton in here, and honorable mentions go to Vern Gosdin, Ricky Van Shelton and Conway Twitty.

Nobody can be a more talented "runner-up" vocalist in a duo. Paul's great, but he's nothing without Garfunkel.

And that's fine. I won't say that you're wrong because it's simply a difference of opinion between us. And in my opinion, Lennon was a good songwriter, a good musician and even influential, but not a good vocalist. I have the same opinion about Bob Dylan.

Getting back to topic, Barry Manilow is quite the swooner with a voice as smooth as silk. Geoff Tate, vocalist for Queensryche, also has a great voice.

Just because Elvis has quite a legacy, doesn't mean he has the greatest male voice of all time. There's tons of singers who are extremely famous that don't have technically good voices.

How do you expect me to have proof? Do you think I snuck around and took pictures of them using autotune in the studio? My point is, everybody uses auto tune these days. No producer would ever allow a pop artist to be on the radio without autotune, it just doesn't happen. And if me saying that One Direction uses autotune offends your "way of life", then that's beyond pathetic and you really need to grow up, because that's just childish.

I don't think there is one "greatest male voice". Many of the great voices out there are so unique, it's almost seem like a crime to try and compare them all or choose just one. For pop, I'm not going to lie, I love Michael Jackson. That doesn't mean he's my favorite though or that he's the best (although he is up there). Right now, one voice I find incredibly beautiful is Josh Groban's voice. I don't know if he is "the best", but I do think his voice is absolutely breathtaking.

Freddie mercury, mick jagger, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, hell ringo staar, ozzy osbourne, roger Walters but the best of the best from them is Freddie Mercury. He could be bad ass like acdc and or calmer like the beatles. A great example is the number of different tones he uses in Bohemian Rhapsody. Or how he is calmly singing another one nights the dust and then raises his voice and with more emotion sings "How do think im gonna get along with out you when im gone" in another one bites the dust. He raises his voice to different tones in We are the champions. Truly a shame that he had to die. He would still be rocking out just as strong today if he hadn't
