Ok, so I'm currently doing the insanity workout, along with a little workout routine of my own.. But I was wondering if I should use the whey protein after insanity? Is it going to help me build muscle or is it just going to make me gain weight? I need to gain muscle, but not a lot of fat weight. So should I take it?

I use protein and I have found it very effective. However it greatly depends on your daily intake and your body type.
A protein supplement is usually used to aid with bulking, allowing the body to get greater amounts of protein on which the muscle builds. For people with a slim build (who generally don't each as much as larger people obviously) it allows them to supplement their diet with protein.
If you are a larger person trying to slim down, I would personally recommend not using protein until you want to gain muscle. Focus on a healthy diet instead.
That being said however, if you're slim and trying to bulk up, a protein supplement is NOT a replacement for a healthy diet.
If I were you, I'd be going to a fitness store (where they sell protein) and ask the people who work there. They should have an idea what they are talking about.

Then quit doing Insanity.
this...
Lift in a 5 day split, eat 500kcal surplus with around 1-2g of protein per lb of lean body mass. Clean your diet up, up carbs, lower fats, count calories and macros.
Let me know if you want me to elaborate on any of this :)
Take it from me, i've lost 55lbs in the past 6 months, there is no magic supplement that can replace hard work. Whey protein is great when you're struggling to hit your protein macros but it's a supplement, it should supplement your diet (which should already be in check)
sorry if this doesn't make sense, i've been awake for far too long

I took whey protein but wasn't a big fan of the taste of it and switched. But it's all personal preference.

If insanity is a cardio program then there is no point taking protein.
If you're lifting, then you need protein supplements, otherwise a healthy diet would suffice.

If you want to buid muscle Insanity is NOT FOR YOU. Like other people have said, it is a cardio, fat burning system. It will NOT make you put on size. If you are looking to build muscle you need to work out. Heavy compound movements etc.
Should you take whey protein? That is entirely up to you. Why protein is a dietary SUPPLEMENT. It is to SUPPLEMENT a healthy diet, it is not to be used to replace something else. It is a great way to get fast digesting protein into your body. It will NOT make you put on fat any more than eating anything else will. It is just another food source. Do NOT mistake protein shakes for mass shakes or calorie shakes. They WILL make you put on weight, that is what they are designed to do.
IF you want to build muscle you NEED to be eating plenty of protein. Even if you are dieting. High protein intake is SO IMPORTANT to make sure that you ONLY burn fat and don't burn any muscle, especially from HIT style training like Insanity. I personally always make sure i have a tub of whey protein in the cupboard IN CASE i find i run out of natural sources or just want a quick fix. I ALWAYS make sure i get ATLEAST 130g of protein EVERY DAY from NATURAL SOURCES, chicken, tuna, beef, turkey. They do exactly the same thing as whey protein, except they do it better. Like i said it is up to you and your goals but it shouldn't be a big issue as you should already be eating a lot of natural protein as part of your diet

This sums it all up, but I'm doing insanity too, and you'd want to take it immediately before or after, any other time you use it it is converted to fat, and isn't actually used by the body in growth and repair of the muscles

Your body needs carbs as much as it needs protein for recovery. Protein is also a good way to gain lean muscles.

No. No reason to use it at all.

All it does is give you excess protein that you don't actually need

I drink it every day, but I'm trying to gain weight and I go to the gym a few times a week. Insanity isn't gonna build muscle though.

Insanity isn't gonna do jack! You should probably start with something like allpro's beginner routine and after that you can either look for a different program or design one yourself. I think cowpimp's guide and Ian McCarthy's videos are very helpful. Whey protein is definitely useful, but it's not necessary. What really matters is that you meet your macros and micros. There's plenty of ways to determine your caloric needs, just google something like ''calorie calculator'' or whatever. I believe IIFYM.com has a decent one. I don't think clean diets are a necessity , but that's up to you. Pm me if you have any questions :)
