so i was wondering who big company websites pay for their domain names.i believe they do, because if you want to make one you have to pay for the name and the web hosting. like godaddy.com ,and apple.com and google.com who do they pay for their website names (etc). And if someone could backtrack it all the way to the first provider, or tell me where to find it, that be great. And one more thing how did the first website become, also how can i make one, like the very first website without paying anybody?
thanks.

Not sure what you want here, but if you want free domain names, I use DynDns.com (the domain name will have a extra bit on the end, ie "name.dyndns.com" rather than "name.com") If you want to make a website, you can use something like Moonfruit or Weebly a website to make websites with using drag and drop, rather then writing the code, they will also host it for you, but you must pay to remove the domain ending. If you want you can host it yourself, but you will need: a computer running Apache, a properly configured router (port forwarded) and something like DynDns to access it remotely without having to remember the IP address. As for the people who host Google and Apple, Google offer their own domain name service, so they probebly use that, as for Apple, they use www.cscprotectsbrands.com for their hosting. You can look up domain names using a WHOIS search: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp
