View Full Version : Internet on my laptop

Basically my mum bought me a new laptop for my birthday 3 weeks ago and it was running fine until now. Now every time I load the internet and try to access any page it comes up with the cannot load this page message, most of the time I refresh the page once or twice and it loads. But it never loads twitter, facebook, tumblr or my school website no matter how many times I refresh it. Its getting really annoying having to load everything several times and I'm just wondering if there isn't a really obvious solution?

I'll be the first to admit I definitely don't know my way around a computer past GCSE ICT, so any help would be really appreciated.

First of all, it has nothing to do with you laptop. Do you live near a forest? Maybe you should switch your motem on and off.

OK, so ignore this as it clearly wasn't helpful or understandable. This person clearly does not have an idea what he's talking about, as forests do not interfere whatsoever with signal strength.

The first thing you should do is check your wireless strength and see if you have interfering devices with the radio frequency. This probably isn't the case, which also means check if you have any obstructions between your laptop and the router. About 5 to 6 walls are enough but more than that could weaken the signal, depending on the router. Go close to the router and check, and check other devices too. See if your phone or tablet or anything WiFi enabled can connect to it. If that is it, you should get your wireless card checked out at a store as it could be defective. Either that or you could perform a System Restore in which case you may have accidentally uninstalled the wireless driver. You should re install it with the CD that came with the laptop, or from the internet (through another computer and transfer). A system restore can return the laptop back into its original state, so I recommend you try that first if the wireless seems to be fine.

I'm sorry, I'm sure you could forgive me. Anyways, Im sure a computer God such as yourself knows what the fuck is wrong.

No need to be so crass,
It's likely that there might be something wrong with your Modem or signal getting to your laptop. If you can try Resetting the Router and that might solve the problem. If possible you could try and reset the group that your router sends signals on, This is a slightly more advanced solution and if you don't think you can do it then i'd recommend against rummaging around in there haha,

Also try switching your wifi on and off from your laptop.
