How do individual stations make money? How do tv shows make money? How do tv providers make money?

One word: Advertising.
In some European countries, however it can also be two additional words: Government Subsidies.

They get money from advertising, unless they're like the BBC and we pay TV tax to them.

National televisions get money from their perspective governments and advertising. Private television channels get their money only from advertising.

Like everyone said Advertising, Gov. subsidies, or in PBS's case private trusts/donors and donations.

TV is the major advertising source in the world, it is as easy as that. Some channels also make money because certain series or shows pay them to be in their channel.
