Right. Okay, I see your issue here. I honk you should tell 'Kate' that you know then talk to her about how you feel. Then tell your friend that drinks how you feel about them drinking.

I talked to Kate. Turns out she likes him, and she didn't tell me because she wanted to handle it on her own. Just the two of them.

I decided not to come right out and talk to my other friend who is drinking, though. I'll just try to let him know I'm there for him. I think that's better.

I had a similar problem. A close online friend of mine told me he'd be getting high one weekend, and I told him that I refused to talk to him if he was going to be high. A few days later, he launched into a pretty extensive explanation/ramble on his drug use. I knew not to ask questions when it came to him, but I still expressed my displeasure and he came to me about it. I wouldn't be too obtrusive with whatever approach you take, but if you're worried or unhappy about it, tell him, just don't try to tell him what to do.
