Often I imagine a situation, usually a sad or potentially dangerous one, and I focus so much on it, that after a while, it starts to seem real. Today I had one where I imagined that I was sitting in a corner of my school library when I overheard two of my friends spreading rumors about me and ripping my reputation apart behind my back. Keep in mind that this is all in my head. Anyways, these thoughts cause me to become spiteful and bitter. Usually I'm a pretty nice and altruistic guy. Why do you think this happens? Is it because i bottle up too much emotion or something?

That could be a possibility. I tend to run through scenarios in my head, usually the worst kind.
I think most people do or have at some point. Some will just focus their mind on something else; others might fixate on it and let it take over.
I'd say it's semi-normal. We all think of bad scenarios. Perhaps that's human nature? Or maybe just the creative/imaginative side of ourselves taking over?
However, you should try to not let it take over your emotions & energy. Try to think of something else and eventually you should change thoughts.
I'm the same way, I also bottle up my emotions.
Good Luck!

I think this is something you definitely should talk to a school counselor about.

Thanks! It's not so bad that I have to talk to a school councillor, plus, we just got out of school for the year, so it would be hard to talk to one.
