I finally decided that I am ready to come out (wooh!) lol, but I don't know how i should do it.
I believe i could confide in my sister first who i know is a very big gay rights supporter and a fan of many gay people. How should I approach her about it? but, I'm concerned with how my father will take it. He's olddd and unopenminded  but he cracks jokes about gays a lot. And me and him have finally gotten on good terms a couple years back, and i don't want to ruin it.
One of the main reasons i havent come out yet (besides being scared and not being confident) was that i don't like to make a big deal and attract attention. I dont wan't to cause a big scene in my family and social group. Hopefully that won't happen.
Also, i know how openly gay kids are treated in school. would it be better if i just didn't come out and kept to myself so i don't have to go through that?

What do you all think?

I'm gay and out. Its up to you if you come out to everyone or not. Personally I wouldn't.
I think since your sister is accepting of gay people she prob would be a good person to talk to or a really close friend. See how they react and feel then decide from there who you want to know or if you want to come out. I wish you the best. Hope it goes well for you.

Someone gave me the advice once, that as a way to come out in public, go on FB, and just change the "Interested In" setting. If people wanna know, they'll find out. If you wanna come out to everyone, do. But just say it to a few people; word gets around. For close friends, and you sister, just be honest. If your friends are real friends they won't care. My friends don't.
Parents are harder. Just reassure them that you're still the same person. You're still their child. Give them time.
Good luck!

I first came out to my mom. We are essentially best friends and have a great relationship. I went out to eat with her and she asked me if I liked anyone. I just came out and said "I don't really like girls; I like guys". She was really happy. She said she knew all along. Same with my dad, brother, and the rest of my family. >.>

Though, my dad and brother don't really like it. They accept me, but I feel different around them. Not the best feeling, but I still have a good relationship with my mom.

I personally don't want any unnecessary attention, so I only tell people who ask and close friends. I treat it as if it's totally normal.

Coming out is great. I wish you good luck. :)

well keep in mind that it won't be you making a big deal of it or ruining how you get along. It's on them if they can't accept it. Absolutely tell your sister first tho.

I am gay and out. what you got to remember is that what other people does not define who you are as a person only what they are and that it should not affect you as long as you dont care what they say. thats what i do and i get by just fine.
