This summer i will taking my first plane ride to the National Latin Convention in Las Vegas. The ride is only about an hour, but what should i expect? (And out of curiosity, is anyone else here going?) Thanks!

As long as you're not one to get motion sickness, you should love it. I love flying!

Try and get the window seat!

Ears popping.

Pressure change will cause your ears to feel like they're clogging up. yawn to unclear them.

Security can be a pain in that ass. Try to arrive at least 1 hour early.

It will go fast and you will feel some pressure in the cabin but theres nothing to be afraid of becuase flying is the safest way of travel.

Definitely get a window seat ahead of the wing so that you get a good view. Also go to flightaware.com and look up the flight number. You can see a map of the route so that you can plan ahead to look for anything interesting on the ground.

As others have said, the pressure changes can cause your ears to hurt. As long as you don't have a cold, you shouldn't have any problem fixing this. The easiest way is to hold your nose, close your mouth and gently (let me repeat, gently) try to blow air out. You can try it on the ground to see what it feels like. I can do it without holding my nose. It just takes a little practice.

Even though they tell you that you can unbuckle your seat belt, leave it done up in case there is some turbulence. Don't worry if the plane shakes a bit when going through clouds. It is built to stand up to a lot.

One last cool thing to try. As soon as the pilot throttles back the engines and points the nose down to start the descent, stick your arms out and move them up and down. Right at that point, you will weigh a little less so your arms will feel a bit lighter. It only lasts a few seconds, so you gotta be quick.

Good luck on your first flight. You will have a great time!

Another way that I haven't seen mentioned yet to prevent your ears hurting is by wearing ear plugs. I used to have to wear them when I was little and took plane rides, so I don't remember very well, but I'm pretty sure they're sold in the airport. Also, chewing gum supposedly helps, but I haven't had an opportunity to try.

I go in planes at least twice every three months. Just stay in your seat and sleep. Your ears might pop a little although that doesn't happen to me a lot, take off and landing are really fast and can be rough, apart from that good luck!

make sure to take some pankillers with you, the pressure can do funny things, its nothing to worry about but it can affect other parts than the ears, for me it is my sciences and I flew once two weeks after getting my braces off and it hurt the roots of my teeth too.

But most of all enjoy it, flying is one of the best things you can do, its great fun, the views are stunning and ofcourse the feeling of flying is great too!
