I for one think its stupid i can't give blood for dyeing people. I should be able to giving blood at my discretion. I've given plenty of blood for medical tests and whatnot against my will. Why shouldn't I be able to give blood as I want?

Well, I really didn't think much of this. I'd like it if people of all ages could give blood, though. At least kids would be required to get a parent's permission or something? That would work.

its because when were older were considered wise enough to make our own decisions also when we young (under 16) our body finds it harder replacing blood than when were older

I think if you have parental permission it should be allowed

The reason that you aren't allowed to give blood without parental consent when you're young is that you aren't responsible for yourself, legally, yet. You can only give blood every so often, and there are a ton of criteria you have to meet, and if you don't answer everything right, you could cause harm to your self or others.

Until up to a certain age (18, maybe? forgot), you can give blood with a parent's permission.

Where I live its against the law for anyone under 18 to give blood.

You do not have as much blood when you're young, therefore loosing some blood might mean a lot for your under-developped body.

its usually dangerous for minors to give blood. even when you are an adult, if you are small, you are not allowed to give blood. and since the majority of minors are too small, they have to go by that, because it would be too inconvenient to go case by case for every single perspective donor

We can give blood, as long as our parents give permission to.

Most of you in this thread don't understand this. When they take blood from you when they donate, they take a pint. Your growing and not fully developed body usually can't take having that much blood removed and it causes health problems. So they tell you that you can't donate for your own health.

Exactly!
It can be dangerous - if you can you should, but there are risks.

We need that blood more then adults. A small loss of it could cause health problems. Even some adults cannot donate because they do not have enough blood.

the 18 years is a standart age limit for most things (from buing alcohol to drivint) at that age you are an adult in the eies of the law, you can make your own desicions and thet is what is needed to give blod, and there are also so many other factors that determin if someone can be a blod doner, from the qualety of blod to you weight

I think in the UK if you have a really rare type of blood you can give before you're 18 in emergencies such as family or close friends.

I think it should be lowered to 16 personally.

It shouldnt be a age limit for saving someone's life, though if it must be a age limit it should be 15 or 16

My high school does a blood drive, and you have to be 16 to donate. It's 16 in some states, 17 in others. I support this actually. It's not because they don't want other peoples blood, but because of body stability and ability to replenish blood. This is the same reason you also must be at least 110lbs in order to donate. It's about keeping you healthy while doing it.

Anyone under the age of 18 should not be allowed to give blood, because abusive parents could use it as a punishment... Cruel... I know.
