my 21 year old sister has to go to jail for a year for a hit and run while driving under influence. She has to go next week. She told me she is going to run away so she doesn't have to go because she is scared and nervous of going. This seems silly to me because I don't know where she will go but it looks like she might be serious. What can I say to talk her out of it, also should I tell my parents? What will they probably do? I am close to her and don't want to betray her you know. If I tell them what could they do? I have a feeling they will just call the police right away. Is there anything I can say myself to help stop her?

Stop her, tell the cops her plan
She'll be a fugitive until caught
She did a terrible, cowardly thing

it'll be more than a year if she runs. she'll be in way more trouble. Honestly, talk to her first and if that fails, tell an adult. asap. It's honestly for her own good. I know it's scary but one year vs extra time for running..

If you phone the police, she will be in even more trouble and get extra time.
If you let it happen, she will be in even more trouble and get extra time.

It's up to her, sadly...

Tell her that running will get her worse off than if she just takes the concequince as it is now. I mean tell her how hard it'll be to get a new form of transportation because her licence plate number, make, and model of her car will be given to every cop in your region. Money's also a huge factor. You need money to eat, move, and many other things. If she tells you that she has all that covered, tell her that it's her life, and if she wants to fuck it up, then she can. That is what I would do myself.

If I tell the police, will they come and take her to jail right away. Like come to our house and take her?

Tell her to run, get her a new passport, id, name, number, get her to go to another country. Just make sure you have her number.

are you being serious

A really bad idea. If you do something you shouldn't have, then you have to face the consequences. If she tries to run, she will be caught eventually and it'll be way worse. Plus, if she just goes then maybe she can get out for good behavior early. Doubt they'd let her if she tries to run away.

As many other members have said don't let her run away. Not only will she likely get caught, she'll get a longer jail sentence. She was driving under the influence, you can't defend that and she needs to face the music.

Also we don't want to encourage any sort of illegal behavior here, especially in regards to running away from court, that is a very serious offense.
