does everyone have a right to food and water? we in the Western world take it for granted that we have so much more food than we need but this is not the case for many countries, in fact countries like Britain and the USA actually buy farming land from poor countries to get luxuries like coffee and chocolate, we dont consider them luxuries, but many are lucky to get bread. so should we be doing this? should they look after themselves? and will food and water ever run out??

One day we might not have water or food, so people should value it more if that makes sense.

short answer yes, its basically a right, but this doesnt mean it should be taken for granted.
and no, i dont tihnk we should buy land from poorer countries to use for such things. i think its better that each country work within itself, but it cant fully do that if we take resources from it.

I don't believe in positive rights. You don't have a right to get anything because if you have a right to get something then someone else is forced to make sure you have that something.

Water is a neccesity, not a right. You pay the man who works purifying and shipping the water to your sink through taxes you pay. Food is a neccesity, not a right. You pay the man who makes it by buying it from a salesman.

There are plenty of people who don't have easy access to food and water like, you, I, and this entire forum (and basically anyone with an internet access) do.
In the US, UK, and all other highly developed countries, tap water and food seem like they're free to you simply because of their accessibility and availability. Then take a village in a undeveloped country and Africa. They don't have running taps with purified water, nor supermarkets down the street.

true but the people who sell it still need a profit for there labor so it shouldnt be free but I think they both should be a right but that wont make any difference for us (we could afford it anyway) and it wont affect africa because they dont have the resources to give it to people. its fine for us anyway, its practically free

Africa has plenty of resources, it's just always being raped by Western corperations..Everything from Oil,Diamonds, Cocoa(Chocolate), is stolen...If African nations could stand up to Western companies/Countries and say they are not taking the BS anymore, they'd be pretty rich...

That doesn't have anything to do with the quote you replied to. And yea I guess it's your decision to turn a blind eye to all those starving and whatnot, but that certainly doesn't make it right

Do you honestly think that all the food you eat is supplied from some magical farm in Africa? Do you actually know where it's from, or are you just guessing?

of course I know lol most weat, milk and meat comes from Britain, it is the stuff that needs a hotter climate that comes from africa. if you shop in waitrose they tell you what country its from and if its britian even what farm! companies will always try to get food cheap when they can and when food comes from africa they take advantage of how poor they are and buy it really cheap
