Hi, just a quick question out of earshot. What is asexuality? Is it like or different from celibacy which is the practice to be celibate and not have sex, or is celibacy an adjoined practice to a sexuality and asexuality just another sexuality?
I am asking this because I know a few celibates in my family, and believe it or not I think they are asexual, they never once mention wanting to be with someone else or seem to have interest. Plus, I've a friend who seems slightly detached and she is asexual, I asked her but she said she has no desire for sex, or romance. Is there a name for this and answer for the questions aforementioned? And yes, I have no problem going to Google but I wanted to hear some responses too.

Asexuality is the lack of desire for sex, and you have absolutely no attraction to either gender. Celibate is like asexuality, but more so influenced by religion. It can also mean the you are not married.

In other words in some cases some people who are asexual may not get aroused? Oh nevermind, that is silly...

There COMPLETELY different. Celibacy is the choice to not have sex, asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction.
Asexuality is a sexuality, as is straight, gay, or bi. It may sound confusing, but it's not anything related to celibacy.

Lol, well I thought asexual was when you laid eggs. :O But the sexuality term I guess, means someone who isn't interested in anything, sexually. ;O Because I'm such a prude IRL and show a complete disinterest and aversion to anything sexual, some of my friends have begun thinking I'm asexual.

Asexuality is a lack of sexual interest in any gender.
Celibacy is the conscious choice not to have sex.

Arousal is a separate issue. Asexuality is simply a lack of sexual attraction. Some asexuals experience arousal and have a sex drive while others do not. Asexuals may choose to have sex for reasons other than sexual attraction. Celibate people don't have sex period.

Asexual people have NO desire for sexual relationships, male or female. That is to say, they might be in a romantic relationship( not all are sexual) and fall head over heels in love, or might even masturbate, since they have the ability, but they don't have a sex drive.
To put it simply, they may have sexual relationships, but most likely will not get aroused, easily at least. Hope I helped :3

I don't think it's a silly question. I spent some time in a forum for asexual people and learned some about it. Some asexual people can be straight, bi or gay and some are married. Some do get aroused and masturbate. But basically they just don't have much or any interest in sex. At least that's what I got out of it.

Thanks for replying, gee, I sometimes feel asexual sometimes but I doubt I'm asexual.

I'm not sure if this is true with worms but their are species that reproduce asexually. Asexually reproducing means you reproduce without sex. The A in Asexual is a Greek root which means without (Like Atheist means Without religion or belief in God as apposed to theist means somebody who has a religion or belief in God.) Or asymmetrical means, "Without Symmetry"
So Asexually reproducing is when an organism reproduces without having sex, Being Asexual on the other hand, means you aren't sexually attracted to any sex.
