A Gif is just an animated picture. So it's like your typical jpeg file except it moves and is animated. They work basically the same way as a picture, as far as posting one or using one as an avatar or something. If you're looking to make one yourself, google that, as there are tutorials out and stuff. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for when you say 'in general', so let me know if I misunderstood.

But when I copy and paste one Into my sig its just a still picture.

You have to copy the actual link to the image and use [IMG] tags to put it in your signature. So go to the gif, right click it and click "Copy Link" or something along those lines. Then put the link in between [IMG] tags and you should be good.

It won't actually animate unless it meets the requirements of the image set by the administrator (Maverick), so for a signature it has to be under 450x175 AND under 75KB.

The IMG tag is not allowed in the sig, though....
