well ive recently got a letter through the post, saying when i have a hospital appoinment. Last week i went to go and see my doctor about my foreskin. He said i will probably need a circumcision, thats what the letter i got is about,, telling me when it is. I have a few questions to ask, does it hurt? and will they do it under a Local Anasthetic or General Anasthetic. Im afraid that it will decrease pleasure in masturbation etc as well. Any advice would be good.
thnx in advance.

1) Yes, It will hurt, but the pain should be minor, and shouldnt last more than a week or two.
2) They use one of the three kinds of anesthetic listed here -
Topical anesthetic (EMLA) cream can be put on about an hour before the procedure to numb the skin. This is the least invasive method of anesthesia, but isn't quite as effective as the other two methods.
Ring block (local anesthesia) is done by injecting local anesthetic (like the dentist uses) around the bottom of the foreskin near where the incision will be made.
Penile block (nerve block) is done by injecting local anesthetic at the base of the penis, where the nerves for pain are located.
I hope that was helpful:D

You should ask your doctor about the technique involved. Whatever they use, you won't feel anything whilst they're operating. They'll give you pain killers for later. You'll be really sore for a few days, fortunately that area heals pretty fast. You'll need to be extra gentle for a couple weeks.
In terms of pleasure, after you heal, you'll notice NO change in pleasure. Everything you've heard about that is hysterical bunk.
Good luck!

As for the decrease in pleasure, I can't honestly say it's "hysterical bunk" with the studies out there. If any sensitivity reduction exists (which isn't 100% certain, but is probably likely), it's probably so gradual that you would not easily notice it. Most probably never notice it (again, if it's there). There are soundly-conducted studies that say there is a significant difference, and ones that say that any difference is minor.
Not to second-guess your doctor, but physicians in the UK tend to over-prescribe circumcision because it is faster. How much all have you tried? If you want to go in for circumcision, that's your choice, but if it were me, I'd want to try the steroid creams first and preputioplasty (a more minor surgery with fewer risks). Except for rather extreme cases of what's called Balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO), circumcision is generally not necessary for cases of tight foreskin.
But, again, if you want to go for it, the advice you're getting in this thraed is good.

IT will increase pleasure because the head of your penis is sensitive and you will get more fun if not let me know

There's no reason that removing the foreskin would increase the sensitivity of your penis head.

i'd say what ever you do dont watch any thing they are doing. dont look at any of the tools that will make it seem worse than it allready is.

Sorry, I messed up and got confused. Disregard my last post.
Yes, there's a lot of aftercare. You'll probably have to stay home for the day. After that, there's instructions on keeping the wound clean and all. You'd be on some pretty hardcore painkillers, but there would still be some discomfort, especially if you get an erection. It would be 5 or 6 weeks before you'd be able to masturbate or have sex normally.
This is all why I'd recommend trying the steroid cream and lesser surgery first. It's not a huge deal, but it costs money, has some risks, and there's just no reason to do the safer, easier things unless you're really set on circumcision.
Sorry again :)

After re reading the original post, I didn't find the part where the OP asked for opinions on his doctor's recommendation. Maybe I missed something, but perhaps that's because my own agenda doesn't prevent me from understanding the original question, nor have the audacity to question the recommendation of a doctor who has performed an examination.
Anyway, having gone thru this, I can comment based on actual experience! You'll be really sore for a few days, the pain killers will help. Healing is pretty quick, actually, although you won't have the urge to masturbate for a 'few' weeks (your time may vary). It's not such a big deal, really. Actually, the discomfort you now have might actually be worse. And when you're all better, you'll very likely never have anything ever go wrong with your penis again, it'll be completely maintenance free.
Good luck, don't worry, if you have any procedural questions, ask your doctor before he begins. It's really not a big deal.

Let's not start that circumcision fight again. Remember to be respectful of ones opinion and if you disagree you do it in a way that is not attacking. Its not wanted here.

If it were my body, SAM, I'd want to try alternatives if they were available. Best case scenario, it saves him money and pain. Worst case scenario, he has to delay getting a surgery but goes into the whole thing with no regrets.
With all respect to his doctor, circumcision is an over-prescribed surgery in Britain, even when there are more conservative treatments available. The way the NHS goes surgery referrals results in a lot of unnecessary surgeries before alternative treatments, not just circumcision. I'm not trying to discourage him from the option, just make sure he explores all options. If his doctor says, no, this is what we have to do, I would be unreasonable to disagree with that. But he didn't say that.
I don't have any agenda here other than making sure he's all right at the end of this.

as anthony has said, please do not start a circumcision debate. if this continues, this thread will be locked and possibly infractions will follow.
