Just got home after having a circumcision. I suffered from severe frenulum breve which was painful during any type of sexual activity. After talking with my regular doctor and the urologist and my parents we decided this was the best treatment option. I tried less invasive methods and they helped but did not solve the problem. Anyway, I was under general anesthesia. No pain at all during the procedure as I was obviously asleep. Mild discomfort now but the pain pills are working. Will update as things progress. Will have to take a few week break from jerking off which will probably be the hardest part (pun) lol.
What should I expect recovery to be like?
I know there are some guys who had it done at a later age as well. Is there any advice you have for me?

I have been for god knows how long. I had hypospadias as a baby (severe) and so had to have it done.
It is cleaner anyway, and I see little difference

Been out of surgery 7 hours and home for 4. Mild discomfort but no pain. The entire process was really easy. Gonna be a few long weeks of healing, but I will happy to enjoy a pain-free frenulum.

Thanks for all of the encouragement. Sat in bed most of the day and watched TV and movies. Things are a little sore but still no real pain, just discomfort. I still feel ok walking about the house. Going to take it easy again tomorrow. I was a little worried before the procedure but I really had no reason to be, it was super easy.

I'm not circumcised myself, and I think it would be a bit awkward discussing it with my parents, but I've always wondered what sorts of procedures you'd have to go through to get it done (not just surgical, but like... the "chain of command" too; doctor, refers you to hospital, etc?).
Hope it's not too bad for you. Or that you enjoy it (after the healing, ofc). :P

I think its quite variable, it has a lot to do with how badly you need it, how your doctor feels about the options available and how you (the patient) feels about it.
With me I had had foreskin issues to a greater or lesser extent for about 2 or 3 years before getting circumcised, they would come and go. I think i visited GP on 3 occasions over it, but would not go if I was havin a minor infection, mainly to avoid the embarrassment lol.
On 3rd visit GP suggested seeing a specialist- parents have BUPA so I saw him within the week. He gave me 2 options, keep trying various creams and see if it got better, I did for 2 months then went to follow up. TBH it had gotten a tiny tiny little bit better, it was then I basically had a choice to keep on more of the same or get a circumcision... 2 weeks later it was done.
Chose the latter, and just wish I had asked for it when my issues 1st started :D

Perhaps I spoke a little too soon, was woken up with mild pain this morning, probably 3 out of 10 at about 4:15AM. Probably my fault as I forgot to pee before going to bed. Peed, took a pain pill and slept until 7am when I would normally wake up.
Walking around at school today was interesting. I walk a little slower than I normally would, but still no severe or moderate pain, just discomfort. Things are really swollen still but appear to be looking better. Just going to take some time.
Once again, thanks for all of the encouragement, you guys have been really awesome.

Umm my pediatrician would always ask if I was having any issues and for a long time I wasn't, but then one time I told him that my frenulum was a little tight and painful, so he prescribed me a cream and told me to call the office in a few months if it was still painful. The cream helped, but it was still painful, so he referred me to a urologist. Met with the urologist, he examined me and we talked about some treatment options: continue with the cream and see if it gets better (probably wouldn't), frenuloplasty: where they surgically lengthen and reshape the frenulum, and circumcision. There are benefits and drawbacks to both surgical options, but circumcision seemed like it had the least amount of risk of having to have another procedure afterwards. Was scheduled for outpatient surgery one month to the day after the consult.
Day of the surgery woke up really early (6:30am) and went to surgery center, they gave me calming medicine and put me to sleep, woke up and it was all done. I had IV pain medication in recovery, narcotic pain medicine to take home, and was home by 11:30am. The entire process was really easy.

It's swollen still as well, but I have noticed it getting better. Cannot yet comment on how it "feels" but the exposed glans is not super sensitive or anything.

It's really been a LOT easier than I thought it would be. Next week will probably be more difficult but I have a busy weekend planned so my mind will be off of it. The stitches are still in and they're a good disincentive. It feels tight when hard, a little uncomfortable, but not painful. Even the mild pain around the incision in the infected area didn't hurt that badly. Only use the prescription pain pills at night just in case.

I really enjoyed my foreskin and had it not been extremely painful (hurt worse than it did after the surgery) I totally would have kept it. I weighed this decision for many months and tried non-invasive methods that unfortunately did not work. I believe every boy deserves the chance to choose for himself what he wants done. I never had any social or cultural problems with being uncut and it was never a problem with girls (a few were even fascinated by it). A lot of the uncut "dislike" in America stems from cultural bias and fear of the unknown. The penises really aren't all that different and as long as you shower hygiene isn't a big issue. The tide of circumcision is really changing. Less than half of the boys born on the West coast are now circumcised.

Lot has happened since I posted last: all of the stitches are out, had my follow-up with the doctor, finished the antibiotics, "used" it for the first time. Healing is going great, antibiotics knocked the infection out in a day or two. Doctor said the healing is going superbly and I really don't need to see him again unless something goes wrong which he said it wouldn't. It obviously feels different, but not bad. If I'm just sitting or standing or swimming I sometimes forget it's "different" now. Jerking off is a little different but feels just as good, have to be a little careful as I'm not 100% healed yet, that will take another month or two.
Overall I was happy before (until things got too tight and painful) and I am happy now. Both ways are awesome and have pros and cons. Be happy how you are and enjoy it. If you have to have it done at a later age, it's not really that painful and not nearly as bad as you think it would be.

'Glad it's working out well for u eventually and u're getting back to normal operation! I've got a pretty tight frenulum myself so this thread was very helpful for me and thanks for sharing.
Like u used to, I feel quite attached to my foreskin, ha ha! and there's no way I wanna lose it. No need to spell out the reasons! But I agree that boys really ought to have that choice for themselves-- I think it's totally shocking that so many are just circumcised for no good reason. And doctors don't refuse!
I was relieved that there is also the "...plasty" procedure in case it ever becomes necessary. I've no immediate problems with my tightness (I enjoy myself perfectly well) and I'm still in early puberty, so I think it may ease out naturally.
Anyway, thanks for sharing -- I know I've been helped by it.

Is "plasty" where they effectively help in making the frenulum longer? If you're also a little tight whist erect, you're right, you're still young, and should strech given time, as long as you keep playing with it! This should kelp stretching it.

I got this from a surgery website: http://www.urologycentre.com.sg/penile_surgery.html
Tight / short frenulum (frenulum breve)
Short frenulum is common and is seen in 5% of uncircumcised men between 15 and 30 year of age. Some men may go through their entire life suffering from pain and bleeding without knowing that they have this problem. Many men do not even know that there is a cure. The degree of tightness and thickness of the frenulum is very variable.
Treatment is usually by a simple surgical correction. Circumcision is not necessary.
A very thin and tight frenulum can be released with a simple surgical incision under local anaesthesia. The wound is dressed and allowed to heal over a couple of days. No stitching is required.
Although, the above sounds like all i'd need, the site goes on further to talk about a thicker frenulum:
A thicker and tighter frenulum will require a frenuloplasty surgery. We perform this simple procedure under local or general anaesthesia in under 30 minutes. A Y-shaped (referred to as a y-plasty) incision over the tight frenulum. When the incision is stitched together it forms a straight line, which is barely visible.
The patient can return to work within 1-2 days. Healing takes place in about two weeks and the area is considered to be fully functional in about 1 month. The stitches need not be removed as it self dissolves in a few weeks.

That's what I love on this website, learning something new. There's so much on Circumcision, Phimosis (tight foreskins) and for the fenulum. That's the first useful link I've seen for the fenelum hat shoqw a fix without thinking along the lines of circumcision, and nice to know that the forekin can stay in those cases!
sparkles
June 2nd, 2013, 02:59 PM
My urologist discussed the option of frenuloplasty alone, but was worried with the amount of scar tissue that I already had from it stretching and tearing that it may cause me to develop phimosis. I considered it as an option but the risk of having to need a second surgery was enough for me to just consider circumcision.

How's the healing process going? Swelling is gone?
Swelling has decreased a lot, but there's still a little bulging on the shaft at the glans. Doctor said that would take another month or so to go all the way down. It's not too noticeable. It's looking pretty normal. I imagine in a locker room type situation no one would notice I had only been done a few weeks ago.
As for sensation and feeling: Things are just as good now as before. I get some weird sensation when walking quickly or running but that will change as it adjusts more.
Overall, the whole process was over quickly and with minimal discomfort and no real pain. I still wish I never had to go through this in the first place, but things are good now.

It really isn't. I've had dental procedures that hurt a whole lot more. I was asleep for the surgery and had pain medicine for the first few days after. I didn't even need to take all of the pills they gave me. It was really easy.

Probably not really a question you can answer yet, but do you prefer being cut?

So far both are great. Pleasure is a little different but not any less. I like being pain free (tight frenulum was quite painful). I was happy (before the frenulum was tight) and I am happy now.

Glad to hear you are doing so good.
2 weeks? it took me near 5!!! You are lucky man :D
Cooper I agree 100% with Sparkles, whilst I would have really rather avoided having to get circumcised, its not nearly so bad as you think it will be. Is cut preferable to uncut? In my case yes it is because I am pain free, but either is great ;)

Here is another that agrees getting circumcised as a teen is really not that painful. Having my wisdom teeth removed hurt much more. Glad everything turned out well.

Indeed, that put me out of commission for a week. With circumcision I was out and about on the third day.

Sparkles, Im glad you are doing so well with your circumcision. It's 10 months since I got circked and I'm 100% happy. Just wish I has something like this thread to set my mind at ease before my procedure.

... I believe every boy deserves the chance to choose for himself what he wants done...
I'm not going to argue with you. Your opinion is certainly valid and worth hearing.
However when I was growing up and some of my contemporaries had to have that
surgery around the time of puberty I was sure glad it was not something I would
have to deal with. I have zero resentment toward my parents for making the decision
for me.

So I totally missed the one month mark to give you all an update, but here at the 2 month mark things are great. I've adjusted well. Swelling is 99% gone but there's still some minor puffiness, especially after jerking off. Lube certainly makes things feel different but dry is still great as well. Peeing is a bit easier, no need to shake urine off of the foreskin. It came out looking very "normal" which is what I wanted. I still haven't had a chance to try it with a girl yet but seem to be close to getting there. It isn't exactly something I would have wanted done had I not been having painful issues, and it certainly is not something I will voluntarily due to my sons for no good reason. However, both ways honestly are great and you should just be happy how you are. If you are having painful issues, see you doctor, there are plenty of invasive and non-invasive treatment options. Overall it turned out well, and it wasn't super painful or anything but it wasn't exactly a fun experience or something I would want to do again, but if I had to, meh, so what, it wasn't a HUGE deal or anything.

Hey Sparkles. Good to hear that your circumcision was no big deal. My step dad is trying to make me get mine done. I'm not too happy about it at all.....though its nice to hear that you think its not a bad thing.

I agree with Sparkles when he says getting circumcised as a teen is not that bad. To me, the benefits far outweigh the little pain I had.

How much did they cut off? Are you able to tell how much loose skin you will have once the swelling goes down?

If I wasn't having problems I would not have had it done. It's not exactly something that can be un-done. If you don't want it done then don't let your father force you to.

Why should you feel bad? It really wasn't painful, just uncomfortable. My wisdom teeth hurt way more. I sat in bed really high on pain killers for the first few days after, it was kind of fun.

Most of the swelling is gone, it's just a little puffy around the scar area. It's a moderate cut (not super tight or loose). There's never any roll-over of the skin soft or hard but there's enough skin that even hard it still moves.
Let me know if you guys have any other questions. I enjoy giving advice on this unique topic. Not many other guys can comment on what it's like to do this as a teen.

How's your D these days?

I have been for god knows how long. I had hypospadias as a baby (severe) and so had to have it done.
It is cleaner anyway, and I see little difference
Howso 'cleaner?'

Oww, that sounds painful man. Were the aftereffects painful or managable? I'm asking cuz I might want to get it done some day as well, y'know.
