What is the diference between Shia Islam and Sunni Islam?

We have some minor differences with each other.
The main thing which we believe different in,is who was the real successor of Prophet Muhammad?
_According to Shia beliefs,God can only decide the Prophet's successor on the Earth, and before the death of Prophet Muhammad,he declared that Ali Ibn Abi Talib is his successor and heir and he must rule the Ummah(Islamic Society)after his death.
Sunni Muslims believe that after the death of the Prophet, the council of nobles had to decide the successor and the first Caliph,so while Ali Ibn Abi Talib and prophet's near relatives were in the funeral(of Prophet),Nobles of Medina(the capital of Islamic nation),decided Abu Bakr as the first Caliph and denied the order of prophet to obey Ali Ibn Abi Talib's commands. But because of Muslims unity,he(Ali)decided to not protest against them.

However,Ali became the fourth caliph after Uthman's death(After Abu Bakr,Umar and Uthman)and after the commons and nobles both convinced him to become the Caliph(At first,Ali was refusing to become the Caliph because he knew that, these people who were convincing him to become the caliph, wouldn't obey him after they choosed him as their ruler.)
and they didn't obey him after he became the caliph, and his reign was very short, about 5 years, but during this five year of governing,he did many things to improve the judgment and fair in Islamic lands, which got forgotten after the death of prophet until his becoming caliph.

Unlike many other Arab generals,he was always kind with the prisoners and their wives and children of them.He had a palm garden and he himself worked in that garden with his servants and like them.Again unlike many other arab lords,he was kind with his ghulams (slaves) and after a period of time working for him,he would release them and support them to have their own business(independent job).

He was a ruler, but he was very poor, because he always spent his money to help other poor people and he was very famous for helping the orphans as now they call him "The Guardian of the Orphans of Kufa(His capital in today Iraq)".

He was a real commander,a real ruler,a real worker,a real teacher and a real religious person.

I got so many more questions is Prophet Muhammad like Jesus in what he done? and what's the story behind the Quran? did Allah write it? or did a follower write it? do Muslims have something like the 10 commandments? and what's the worst thing you can do? and is it true you pray like 5 times a day?

Q1:We believe that other religions are past religions and the new and best religion is Islam now.For example Christianity was exactly like Islam in its own era as Jewish religion was in the other era.But Islam now is the most complete religion.
However, there is no force in converting to Islam, muslims respect others' beliefs but until the other religions followers do not insult and break the Islamic sacred thing like Praying and ...
Q2:Women have to cover their hairs, their arms except the last part of the hands(palms fingers),their legs except the last part of their feet, their breasts, their certain places and their other beautiful parts to avoid being teased and abused. But they are free for their family members like father, brother, son, father in law, sister's son, brother's son and ...
They can wear every things they want but they should cover those places which i told. However, the old women can even let their hairs to be free and uncovered in the public but it is not cultural at all.

About men i didn't recognize what you are telling me about elbows. The men can wear anythings but they have to recognize the culture of people, for example come into the public topless is not cultural at all,but there is no law which can not let you do it,but people do not like this.

Prophet Muhammad was not educated and couldn't read, but after he became the prophet while he was praying god,he learned how to read in just a moment and it was very strange for the people.
The verses of Quran were revealed to the prophet from god by a special angel and when the verses came from god, prophet ordered some of his followers to write what he was receiving from god.The Quran of today, was sent to prophet during over 10 years after he became the prophet verse by verse.

All of the rules of Islam is in Quran and it is a rules book.Jesus was a prophet, also Muhammad was. They were both prophets of God and tried to spread the right words of God between the people,so they did.
And yes,we have 5 times for praying in Islam,
Sunrise,Noon,After noon,Sunset and Night

I was taught that Islam is a totalitarian religion. It appears that it is not, although it has it's share of extremists. Just like Christianity.
