View Full Version : Who really is to blame for the economic crisis?

It has been a lot of finger pointing in the last few years. Some blame the corperations, government, president, other countries, world banks, past administrations(Bush), government spending that has been out of control. Even though things are getting a little better, we are nowhere out of the woods, who is to blame? Personally, I blame government spending from past administrations on useless wars, I also blame corperations for shipping jobs overseas. Tell me your view, feel free to make any comparisons to past events

I blame Bush for spending all that money on the exaggerated Iraq conflict. Then I blame the banks, because they like loaning and making more money all the time. Then I blame gringos, for creating a consumerist attitude, consuming twice what the US produces, and liking to ask for loans and leases from banks and never pay back.

It's a combination of things really. Mostly it was the government forcing banks to make loans that the banks knew were going to end badly. On top of that, we were at the end of a housing bubble and it just so conveniently burst, which caused the market downfall for housing. Unfortunately, we decided to take the attitude that throwing money into a fire would put that fire out, and here we are.

The crash was caused by the housing bubble burst that came from bad lending practices that should have been better regulated.
The debt comes from the wars and the bush tax cuts.
And actually stimulus, aka 'throwing money onto the fire' is exactly how you fix a bad economy, and it worked and we should do it more. essentially it's spending money to create jobs and tax breaks to help increase consumerism, which is what drives an economy.that's why the opposite, cuts like the sequester, seriously damage the economy

A) The United States government, for becoming involved in things we shouldn't be involved in.
B) All the foreign aid we give. Holy shit, $2,000,000,000 per year to Egypt alone, ever since 1975.
C) Big companies like Wal-Mart buying products made in countries like China, India, etc, which provides goods that Wal-Mart can sell so cheap that other businesses can't compete.
D) Outsourced jobs to places like India, China, etc.
E) Us Americans are too greedy, we bite off more than we can chew, that is using over twice the amount of resources that we produce.
F) As we become more technologically advanced, blue collar jobs start to vanish, which leads to unemployment, which means tax-payers are forced to spend more money.
Did I miss anything?

you missed all the actual root causes.
>implying that sending foreign aid doesn't drastically cut back on the aid we give to our citizens
>implying that having jobs out sourced because the government makes things too difficult for some businesses isn't detrimental
>implying that being indebted to China isn't bad
>implying that common greed wasn't also a factor
Hey, you missed some things, champ.

You blame the banks because they like making more money all the time!? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Yeah, blame a business for the economic crisis because they like making money, it's not like a business is supposed to make money  Do you really know what caused it or are you going off of what you hear from the Venezuelan news or from what you hear on here? For some reason, I seem to highly doubt that people from other countries really know what caused the economic crisis and recession here in the US.
Bush didnt help, but I don't think that it was all him. I also think that corporations moving jobs to china didnt help our economy, I'm not blaming those corporations, because its their job to make money, they don't owe it to us to supply jobs. I just believe Americans got too greedy and selfish and they wanted more money and more benefits and corporations got sick of it, so they moved to a place that they knew the jobs wouldn't be taken advantage of and they knew the jobs would be appreciated.

Technically, they do. A businesses main goal, besides making profit, is to provide jobs for the community it is situated in. How else are they to make money without workers making sure that money is being made?

A company can run off of a small amount of employees, it's not all because of the workers. They just help.
It's completely possible for a company to make $20,000 a day with only 15 employees.

And that's further implying the US can actually do something about it. Seriously, how the fuck do you function in day-to-day life thinking like this. Good job addressing every other point I made in that post. Good liberal debating right there.

The entire economic system. Though the root root cause is still greed.

I didn't really disagree with the other stuff, except that while they do happen they aren't at all the cause of our economic problems. Compared to the crash caused by housing and all the stupid things republicans do to kill growth, they're nothing

haha let's embrace communism then, it worked so well for the soviet Union.
I think that the cause was a rather strange mix between the government and the banks, the banks were starting to give out loans to pretty much anyone without thinking about the effects and then the government would encourage this, along with wanting to introduce more first time buyers. This ended up with the banks giving out a lot of capital to risky sources

If the USSR would have fully embraced communions they would still exist today free from the worlds economic crisis.

First of all, I do not live in Venezuela and depending on which news channels you watch the stories can be completely changed, I do not watch Venezuelan news, respect please. Second of all, I lived in the US so I know about the people and situations. Third, I do not just say it, when banks make more money the coin devalues and prices rise, that is actually how it works. By make I do not mean earn, I mean print money and throw it out to the street.

You've said how you live in Venezuela or somewhere lik at multiple times.
Banks don't print money. The government does. So it's not the banks fault for making money
Mine are Venezuelan (born there), and Colombian (lived there for a long time).
For Venezuela...
Aquel Zuliano for my hometown.
Alma Llanera for the whole country.
Question:
As the title says, describe the reasons of why the flag of your countries are like what they are!
What hopes lay behind those flags for your people?

Yellow is for the riches found in the country.
Blue for the seas that separate it from Spain.
Red is for the blood of those who liberated it.
The seven (or eight depending on political orientation) stars symbolize the original provinces.
I dislike the US because the average gringo is ignorant towards the rest of the world, you can ask them to locate Venezuela on a world map and they will have no idea. Plus, they average person also has a war-oriented attitude that I absolutely hate. I am unable to judge the UK though, since I only know three people from there and never visited it even though I have the desire to.
Talking about the word retard the socialist candidate for the Venezuelan elections said that he would make schools for retards, but he used a word way stronger than that in spanish. He is going to loose more than a few votes for that.
I take offense on people seeing Venezuela unfavourably.
I know at least half of the swears in all of Latin America, the people from my hometown in Venezuela swear a lot, so did my schoolmates in Colombia. Therefore I could be addicted to swearing since I grew up with all kinds of different swears from different cultures. My parent's do not care nor do my friends and teachers, I use it as a way to express myself and maybe exaggerate stuff even more in a joke. So I will continue doing it. There should be no such thing as a restriction since cultures vary.
One can only assume you live in Venezuela. From the 8+ remarks you've made about it.

It is their fault for loaning it and trusting way too much.
And no, I never said I live in Venezuela, I said I used to live there and that I am Venezuelan, that doesn't mean I am completely ignorant towards the outside.

There isn't just one thing that you can blame our current situations on. America has been building up to this for about a century now. So I have some advice for all of you.
Quit blaming Bush or any other past president. You shouldn't focus on what they DID. You should care more about what your current president is DOING.
Don't blame the government. The government only has as much power as we let them so if they are doing something wrong, it's our fault for letting them.
Don't blame political parties. There was a great man in history (George Washington) who said that political parties would be the downfall of this country. America didn't listen and we probably should have.
Don't blame capitalism. Capitalism is best economic system possible in our day. The problem is that America isn't completely capitalist. If we can free up the market entirely then things will work out the way they should.
To sum this all up, stop pointing fingers and work more on actually fixing problems.

Obama is doing pretty decent considering the garbage he received. I could see if Obama had came in and the economy was fine, but it was already shit when he came in.

no 'one' is to blame. its due to a build up of various things over time, certain people may have held power over certain areas at unfortunate times. but it would be ridiculous to blame everything on a single person or group.
