how to tell if a guy is bi / gay

I wanted to know if theres a way to tell if a guy is bi/gay without going straight up to them and asking. Im curious and i want to see what its like to mess around with a guy but dont want to approach anyone falsely and ruin any friendahip or relationship i might have with that person
