I'm an only child. Personally, I've always wanted a sibling and I'm disgustingly jealous of other kids with them. Is this normal? Does anyone else feel this way?

first of all what is normal ??
I am also the only child. I'm not jealous of my friends or others that have siblings but I wish I had a brother.

I'm an only child as well and I used to really want siblings until I grew older. Sometimes I still want an older sibling, but for the most part, I've learned that I live most comfortably with as few people as possible. I need my privacy and solitude and living with siblings wouldn't grant me that. I've made friends over the years that feel like the siblings I never had though and that's good enough for me. I also have a cousin who's like a bit of a distant little sister.

Normal: Common amongst others in the same situation and stage of life.

I suppose that makes sense. I'm sort of distant from most people anyway, but I still wish I had a sibling. I don't know why.

That's not the only reason why I wouldn't live so comfortably with a sibling. My personality and mannerisms just don't match up with having a sibling. Maybe that'd be different if I had one, though. There are probably other reasons why you'd want a sibling. I really enjoy the sibling-like relationship I have with some of my friends, but any other aspect to having a sibling probably wouldn't suit me too well.

That's true. I think I'd fit well with one, so that probably affects my desire for one.

I was an only child for ten years, I kind of felt the same, then I got a little brother. It's still like I'm an only child, I still have a sense of independence developed and like to be alone, sure I do spend time with him and care for him, but the age difference is something that does not make it as cool as having a sibling just one or two years old, I still spend almost as much time alone.

i feel the same way. so as an only child, do you do anything like watching porn or masturbation? i feel like this is the only reason why i'm doing it. I don't seem to have anywhere to go on the weekends, besides stay at home, chill, watch television. Most of the time I feel like my room is locked and i can't get out of here. it's like a cage that can not be opened or something. I am ready to give up porn, so long as someone invites me out. How can i get my friends to do so? they are currently studying for ap exams.

my personality does not match up either. I want to have my own bedroom. I don't like sharing. i don't like to order others around or be ordered. I don't like to be the one to help my little brother or sister when he/she needs help. I dont like to be the one to worry about everything.

It's normal to be jealous of other people with siblings if you're an only child. Sometimes I get jealous of people who have no siblings to be annoying to them.

I have two sisters and I'm the only boy. It feels like I'm an only child most of the time.

Yeah, that's a huge age difference. It's definitely not the same relationship when the gap is that big.

I'd say you should try reaching out to your friends. I'm the same way with being stuck at home sometimes.

I've heard of that. I never understand it, but you hear it a lot more than wishing you had siblings, I think.

I have a sister but she has never lived here (long story). I wish I had a bro either a year older or year younger though.

I have two stepsiblings. I consider myself an only child actually, but would prefer it if they didn't live with me. Having siblings ain't all it is cracked up to be.

I have a sister who is 2 1/2 years younger than me. My dad has been in relationships where his girlfriends have had sons that are around 3/4 years older than me. None of the relationships between sibling type figures were/are great. My sister and I constantly argue and physically fight, teenage years are not fun with siblings.
We usually want what we don't have.

Everyone that I know personally with siblings loves them.

It is true that we usually want what we don't have, but I don't know anyone in real life with siblings that would trade their sibling(s) for what I have.
Also, teen years and siblings depend completely on the siblings. Again, in my experience, it's a lot more rare to see siblings constantly going at it than to see them getting along well.

Technically I'm an only child, although I live with the ghost of my brother, who passed away before I was born.
I was only created to replace him, and when I failed (complete polar opposites, I guess) I've turned into a resentment. I can't hate him, but it's hard to live up to him ("Why can't you be like your brother?" or "Your brother would have..." ) and while I think the idea of having a sibling to be close too would be nice, I hardly doubt that would happen. And I hardly think my parents needed me, let alone another kid.
The being lonely sucks, but I think in a non-selfish way, it would be better then the alternative.
I can't give much opinion on "normal" as we're as far from it as you can get..

You know it's funny, I have only one sibling that's a twin. And everybody says how great that must be, and it is. But I often wonder what it would be like to have a sibling that wasn't an exact duplicate of myself, or even no sibling at all and be a complete individual instead of one half of a pair.
