I think ramblings of the wise should be members only cos everyone is arguing and there's name calling and it could make vt look bad for a new member or someone considering joining, I don't think the answer is more mods cos if anything we have to much were not little kids

If you can't handle it, then stay out. The forum specifically says debating and such, so new members should theoretically know what it's for. It shouldn't change their opinion of VT. The same arguement could be made for every forum. Make p101 private because it might scare off members. Make cutting & self harm private because it might trigger potential members. We aren't gonna just make forums private just to attract members. The point of the forums is to allow people to browse before joining. So I say no.

fair enough and I didn't say I couldn't handle it I'm not a little girl and actually I think it should be members only so we would be able to argue better

If you're afraid to say it publically, it probably shouldn't be said at all. How well you argue should have nothing to do with whether the forum is public or private. By your logic, this would only enable more 'name calling' and 'bashing'.

guess so and I'm not afraid to say it in public I just think it might deter new members

If it stops them from signing up, it would also stop them from frequenting the site once they saw it. Making it private wouldn't do anything to the member base.

So that people have a place where they can say stuff that only members can see. If they want a personal vent or something along those lines. It's an anything forum with no set topic, and it's totally different from any other forums.

Pretty much what Val said. Having a place where you can temporarily give up your anonymity is appreciated by some.

Think back.... did you really notice we had a debate forum before you joined? Probably not. Most new members usually notice other topics and join before venturing out to other areas.
