View Full Version : Scabs?

Does anyone else feel compelled to pick scabs? When I get them, I'm almost obsessed with peeling them off. It's horrible and messy because then they bleed again, but the feeling is just so satisfying for some reason. I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but it seemed like the closest option.
In any case, does anyone have any tips for resisting these urges? I know it's bad, but I can't seem to stop...

I do that too. Sometimes they bleed more than the initial wound. I would just try my best to avoid them, and possible keep them covered with a bandaid. If you cant see them you wont feel the urge to pick at them. Good luck! :-)

I don't think I've ever let a cut heal without picking at it again and again. The burn that I did in February has only just scarred because when it does scab over it just gets ripped off again. But yeah, I just find myself subconsciously scratching at them whether they're on my arms or legs. I don't usually get very strong urges to cut but to interfere with my healing cuts I do, it's really weird.
I mean, I don't have any tips on how to stop because I haven't tried and I'm sure I'll be pretty hard because I don't always realise I'm doing it. You could try bandaging them/covering them up but in my experience that does nothing. I think once you're free of self harm that's when it will stop, I wish I had better advice for you.

There's a word for it. Some people are obsessed with picking them off. And then eating them. Something phagia. As long as you don't eat it I guess, you're normal.
