Is it just me, or I am the only one who gets appauled at the thought of 'swag' and 'yolo' and all the stuff that this generation has come to? I mean, even the fashion has gone down the drain. I saw a guy who had red underwear. I should not be able to see your underwear, nor the crack of your ass. Does anyone else feel that way, or am I crazy? :what:

Don't even get me started on music..... or underwear. Once, when we were moving, i went to walmart with my grandma, and I saw this guy i knew....pants literally halfway down his rear. Teddybear boxers. She marched right up to him and was like, 'excuse me,sir, i'm sure you're not aware we can all see your ***, but we can....so if you could be bothered to pull your pants up, it'd be much appreciated." XD Laughed so hard, i almost died.
i swear though, i think there was stuupid pills or something dumped in the water supply almost 15 years ago.... glad to have escaped with my mind mostly intact.

Well, there is your problem right there, Walmart fashion! I do have to admit that I judge people on the brands of clothes they wear. It really depends on what type of clothing you are wearing. If you look attractive like Justin Bieber and show half of your Armani or CK underwear it seems ok, but not perfect. But if you are an ugly fucker who looks like they havent taken a shower in a week and just came out of the ghetto, then that is just plain disgusting. -I dont have a problem with showing a lot of skin, but if the crack of your ass is actually seen, then that should be covered up. Hot, wealthy girs: then it it totally acceptable LOL! --Red underwear, what is wrong with red underwear. Its just a color...I'd be more embarassed with teddy bear boxers. Just as long as we dont go to wearing tighty whities and parachoot pants then today's fashion is just fine.
--Get out of walmart and snoop at the hot guys at Abercrombie, I think you will change your outlook on publicly displaying body parts...

I have lost all faith with our generation and only hope it matures one day or replaced by a much more mature generation. We may be in the 21st Century and all, but that doesn't mean going wild or throw education, grammar, common sense, and common decency out of the window.

I hate how people dress......showing a lot of skin just makes me uncomfortable.
Not totally proud of this, but when my little sister and I went to the mall, i pointed out all the clothes, and made comments like "If you EVER wear anything like this, sharks will eat you." Which got the point across quite well.......albeit traumitizing her for about a month. :/

Don't even get me started on this. Half the people at school talk about 'oh, I got so much swag' or randomly say 'yolo'. But the 'yolo' thing isn't as bad to me because I just think of this one song that is really touching that sends a message like it, though in a better way. And the girls? A little skin is ok, but the girls show way too much. I hate how I occasionally stare. I feel so perverted. and the gossip is aggravating too, mostly cuz I'm an introvert and don't talk much, and I prefer peace and quiet.
Music nowadays is going down the drain. I listen to Avenged Sevenfold and Dropkick Murphys and such, and they think I'm a loser and try to convert to their rap and pop BS. There's too much glorification of sex, alcohol, drugs, cigs, and etc in rap. Pop is boring and the stories are all the same and boring. At least Avenged Sevenfold talks about some good stuff. Granted, some of their music is a bit sexual at times, but not often. They also have warnings about drugs and alcohol cuz that's how the drummer died - an OD.
At least I found a few people like me at my school, so it's ok. They're my only friends at school.
Ok, I'm done now. Have a good day, everyone! :)

Oh, the 90s were by far the shittiest decade when it comes to pop/FM music. I was more speaking as a general rule. People of my generation seem to still have some sort of head on their shoulders without letting it go in the way of life. It's a happy medium between being responsible and decrying stupid shit like premarital sex being taboo.

Are you asking this seriously? Do you not hear people complain about all of this everyday? Maybe you're asking this seriously but I have a hard time believing it, I think you just want to validate a superior feeling.
Yeah, in my opinion (and in the opinion of many others) "today" sucks. But if somebody wants to show their goddamn underwear or say swag or yolo or whatever, the more power to them, there's always going to be stupid people no matter what generation you come from. So, complaining about it does nothing. Just live and let live if it's not hurting anyone else. Do your own thing, and other people will do theirs, and what you think of them has no importance just like what they think of you has none.

YOLO and SWAG are absolutely ridiculous words. It's only hip because it's so stupid and misguided.
Things like the Harlem Shake and Da Wobble can't go... They're hilariously stupidly awesome.
But most music is crap nowadays, We need bands like ACDC, not shit like Eminem and Skrillex.
Games? I can't say they're bad... My favorite was made only 3 and 1/2 years ago... but MW3 WAS SHITTY.
Misguided offensive crude humor? Common, even as our country starts accepting gay marriage more.
And LASTLY... you cant forget... Social Networking. MOST of it is shitty fucking crap that has no damn purpose, other than lowering the IQ of the impudent and incompetent population

Now most rappers right now are trash(Lil Wayne, Drake,Tyga), but its people in the rap industry like 50, Jay-Z, and Dre who are making bank not only off of rapping but businesses, stock investments, record companies, and sports team

I really don't care how people dress. I mean, it's not my style, and I think YOLO is a shit way to live, but do what you want, I guess.
The thing I hate about my generation is that everyone is in a hurry to have sex and grow up and mature and all these thirteen-eighteen year old kids are having babies and it makes me sick. There are like, seven fourteen year old girls who are "Engaged" at my high school, and I think that they are idiots. I'm here like, "Yo dawg, I have a kitten named Doctor and a ton of books, I'm having a blast", and everyone else is kind of like, "Lol, booze, boobs, weed, cocaine, hur dur." Disappointed in everything.

I agree with what many of you are saying, but I do sense that perhaps some of us are allowing ourselves to feel superior. While it is true that many of our peers engage in the strangeness that is modern culture, it is also true that in the majority of those cases, we ourselves are entirely unaffected. For this reason, why should we care if someone shows a basic misunderstanding of their own religions with "YOLO", and then uses it to justify things detrimental to their own health? Why should we care if people say that they have an arrogant and insolent walk (definition of swagger, and then through derivation swag)? True, they may come to regret their high levels of sexual intercourse, drug and alcohol usage, and other actions historically seen as irresponsible. However, this is not always the case, and their actions should be irrelevant to us, for we do not have to endure those actions (most of the time).

This is a good example of contemporary, first-world issues that are always brought to the table. Nobody pays much attention to them, as the world has bigger fish to fry.
It's not a new question, though. Look through the Usenet, mailing lists, and weblogs from a decade ago, and you'll find the same question.
We can make a big deal out of this, or we could perhaps ignore it. Because when you see someone who basically has no pants on and react to it, this provides encouragement, and they keep going. It's the same with blasting music from your car stereo while driving through a city. By acknoweldging them, you affirm to them that people do indeed pay attention.
The best solution, therefore, is not banning things or setting dress codes. My high school is trying to prevent (mainly girls with no attractive future or value to society) from dressing in, well, slutty fashions. But they are doing two things wrong.
Let's start with the obvious one: they are putting up posters with examples of not to wear. Yes, this includes pictures of models wearing the 5 cm "shorts", among many others squeezed onto an A4-sized paper. The idea was to have the teachers post these in their classrooms, and hand out little orange pieces of paper saying, "You have violated the dress code and have been assigned Saturday school", in all caps. All that's missing is the exclamation mark and the phrase "turn in this ticket to cash in your lucky prize".
Spotting the flaw is left as an excercise to the reader.
The next mistake is to make a big point of enforcing it. See my previous point on attention and affirmation.
And do not blame the fashion industry, because they're doing the same thing they always have and will do: tailor to the wants of customers. Because remember, the customer votes with the money in their pocket. Why doesn't H&M make a math-themed skirt? Because nobody would buy it. Why do they make 5 cm shorts? Because the people demand it! There are plenty of others who will buy it, apparently, because otherwise it will disappear from the racks before you can utter "obscenity". This is called free market. Capitalism is wonderful, is it not?
So what should we do? Well, that is up to society as a whole. What do you, collectively, want to see? Choosing is easy: ignore what you dislike, and buy and wear what you do like. Ignore others who follow fashion trends you disagree with. And if enough people do that, then we can bring whatever fashion we'd like.
But we all know that's not going to happen, so let's all just move on with our lives.
Teenagers today drink and smoke less
Ah, now wouldn't that be nice! But see my above points, and apply that to this.
Isn't it wonderful how it all connects back to the topic of attention?

I disagree. We had eurodance and techno, which is way better than what we have of dubstep now.
Plus pop music weren't just Electropop and Pop rock all day long.
It was kind of varied. At one moment we had Yanni, then the next second Triphop, then some Pe old grunge, then we head back to gangsta rap from the Bronx, and so on. Yeah, it makes me nostalgic of those boys bands, too. XD
And we also had our breed of douchebags.

80s amd 90s. Some of the best music in the world was produced then, 70s aswell. (thinks back to Led Zepplin, The Eagles and Pink Floyd)
80s saw the rise of the techno era and the 90s saw the death of the techno era to be replaced with well, the father of today's crap, 1999 I believe was the last year that Techno was the "in thing" but soon after it died down when bands like Daft Punk, and Eiffel 65 started loosing popularity, and now we have music like Skrillex, dafuq is he trying to pull? Ah right, well, I don't know those bands, and some of my family and family friends will also say the same, they were more in love with other bands, and the 70s was for Led Zepplin and a few other bands.
My favorite ones are:
Led Zepplin
Eiffel 65
Daft Punk
Evanescence
Nickel Back
Egypt Central
Skillet
Three Day's Grace
Simple Plan
Linkin Park
The Brilliant Green
Chemistry
Megumi Nakajima
And quite alot more.
Those are the guys I listen to mostly. My favorite being Evanescence. They're a really good band.
But not many of these bands can top bands that sang A Cruel Angel's Thesis, Stair Way to Heaven, The Wall, and Hotel California (I have that shirt XD)

This.
The only reason you can nostalgia about the "good times" is because you forgot all the bad times. Music, television, movies, culture, everything gets thrown under the bus because people find the worst examples of today and compare it to the best examples of the past. For every one good band from the 60's/70's/80's/90's/2000's, there are probably five (subjectively) bad ones. We just don't know about the bad ones because we ignored them. Teens have, and always will, suck (if that's how you want to look at it).

As for what people wear I could care less but saying yolo and swag is annoying. Personally I am no fan of those words and think it is annoying. As far as music goes you just need to look at the right places. Like Yuki Kajiura

I haven't heard about people saying yolo anymore. Did it fade away or did the kids saying that died?

I guess it depends how you look at things. But there will always be fads that come and go, it's always been that way.
Personally, I feel the same as you. I hate that stupid "swag" and "yolo" shit too. I just think it's stupid as fuck.
Basically, I hate most modern things, the music, all the "yolo" and "swag" sayings, how you can have no talent and still be famous ( Justin Bieber ).
But all this is just my opinion. :)

I hate the way most (MOST) young people (not even just teenagers) think nowadays.
Only living once shouldn't be an excuse to be stupid, sorry.
Just a note: My ex lived by the YOLO code. He's now in jail for rape. You only live once, people.

there are things i dont like about it, but i think its silly to make this generation out to be so bad. every generation has had things that people didnt like, and those things either disappeared or people got used to them, then more things came along.
theres nothing special about our generation. its just the easiest to dislike it when you grew up with it
I was waiting to see someone post this. It's just something that comes with every generation. There were the swing dancing, ultra-perms and introduction of the hippie/peace craze in the 60s. The funky afro/groovy era of the 70s. The leather jackets and jerri-curls of the 80s and later the half shirts, wide-leg jeans of the 90s.
I think with every generation there will be some weird fads that the teens will go through, and that won't change. I'm sure there were people complaining about hippies and PEACE just as we are complaining about $wAGG and YoLo.
Basically, I hate most modern things, the music, all the "yolo" and "swag" sayings, how you can have no talent and still be famous ( Justin Bieber ).
I agree, this era's music is pure s* compared to the previous eras. Someone stated earlier in the thread that there were just as many bad artists and bands then as there were now, it's just people focus on the good things. I agree with that as well, but I'd listen to 90s Hip Hop and 80s Rock any day before listening to this junk..

I saw a guy who had red underwear. I should not be able to see your underwear, nor the crack of your ass. Does anyone else feel that way, or am I crazy? :what:
Well actually if you look back through time, our generation isn't bad, all teens are looked down on, your parents were the hippy generation, there parents, the woman cut their hair :0 that was something considered extemly disgusting in their time, I could go on.

These ar ethe type of black men that make we wanna be join the Klan.
That's a little far, even for a joke ...
People dress how they want to dress. If you're going to tell them how to dress, how are they going to express themselves? They may look stupid to you, but I don't think they put their whole outfit together with you in mind. "Oh, some guy I don't know thinks I look dumb. Let me change myself for him, even if I might never see him again!" That wouldn't make much sense, would it?
And there's SO much music out there, nobody told you you have to stick to the mainstream. I usually try to listen to people who aren't too famous as to where they share the same sound as everyone else.
So please, don't complain about our generation. Maybe try to make a difference then.

I completely agree with you. Teenage hood just isn't ass enjoyable as it should be nowadays. I constantly try to fit in with others my age but to do so I have to listen to ridiculous music by Eminem in which case every second word is a swear word, try to look good and have all the 'latest brands' and wear my pants so low that they could fall down around my ankles any minute. It's ridiculous!

Honestly, the self righteousness of people in this thread is what is upsetting. Just like people on Tumblr who think listening to people from the 1980's makes them better or superior because they aren't listening to "shitty pop" or being mainstream. Like, you're not better because you don't say swag or yolo, the trend is annoying, but honestly that is not the generation. The generations before us were full of racists and misogynists and you're saying they are better than us? We're getting better. Fashion is being recycled time and time again so I'm sure this saggin fad will die out. Also, no one's forcing anyone to say swag, yolo, or listen to Rihanna and Justin Bieber. But don't put down others taste because you're listening to the Beatles as if that means anything.

I disagree. If you listen to music that is, if you analyze it, more melodic, meaningful, and complicated, if you can actually think for yourself instead of spamming four-letter acronyms whose users have forgotten their purpose, if you actually understand how pants are designed to be worn, then you truly are a superior individual. Today's youth are a collection of sheep, utterly unable to think for themselves or even get off the computer and do their homework. Go anywhere on the Internet and you'll find an appalling lack of originality and intelligence. Even the "hipster Tumblr users" want to be nonconformists to fit in with their friends, even though they perceive themselves as special. With regard to the ethics issue, it's kind of silly to say, "Today's morals are better according to the rules of today's morals than yesterday's morals were." Morality is totally subjective and a poor way to compare completely different eras. Who knows? In 2100 we might be thought of as badly as we today think of the slave drivers in the 1800s.

Okay I may be mistaken by what you are saying, but it just sort of came off as offensive to me. I don't have very much money so I only get "wal-mart" clothes. Maybe if I am lucky, I will get a shirt that $10-20. Theres nothing I can do about that nor do I want to because why should I go and spend $50 for a shirt when I could get 5-10 shirts for the same price. And also there is just something that runs through my family wear I will sweat a lot in hotter temperatures so at the end of the day it may look like I haven't showered in a while even though I just showered in the morning. If what you mean is just by the shwoing skin matched with all of the above, then I completely misunderstood you. I would feel disgusted if I saw that as well, I am actually paranoid about that and make sure my clothes will fit so that I won't ever show skin/

So, if you listen to music about struggle and that have deep powerful words apparently that makes you superior that I who might prefer to listen to a song about dancing in the neon lights? Maybe you're trying to say that you are smarter because you can understand them? (As if others can't if they wanted to). What about using acronyms equals not being able to think for ourselves? Wouldn't you say it was creativity that allowed acronyms to be created? Just because I'll type IDK instead of I don't know, it doesn't make anyone superior. And if you're talking about IRL (in real life), who uses acronyms then?
You're generalizing. You seem to think that the places you've gone on the internet or the people you've talked to equal the generation. They do not speak for us. There are lots of people who have originality (fanfiction plots, fabulous writers there), there are so many people who are intelligent here in this generation. I've spoken to them.
But, music and the styles of clothes we wear is a shallow way to compare our eras. We're more educated and have more access to resources. And honestly, morality can be subjective all it wants, but there are some things that are fact and cannot be disputed. Misogyny is wrong, discrimination is wrong. That is a fact. If someone believes otherwise, they are a racist and a sexist and their moral compass is off tbh.

Well no, you are generalising 'music' all into the category or dub step and rap, there is still every genre of music being produced. This is also only your opinion on the music, if that is what someone likes then that is ok, I would listen to emenem, but then I would also listen to kimbra, Beethoven, or Mumford and sons, and many non mainstream musicians.
As I'm going to mention throughout my answers this disgust in new generations music has occurred in every generation! Think back when your parents were our age and rock and roll, which is sleepy music compared to what your thinking of rock and roll as, was appalling music!

If you take yolo, and like every day like it's your last, and have no regrets and live like you were dying, I think that's absolutely great.
But, you know as well as I do and idiots "yolo' By doing things like having unprotected sex a lot or driving drunk, and you know what, maybe the drunk driver that killed my Mom when I was six, thought, "Hey, you only live once" When he got into his car that night. So, if you are going to be a danger to the rest of society, then yes, there is DEFFINATELY something wrong with "Yoloing".

Exactly. You only live once so you shouldn't take risks that will potentially ruin that one life. It's incorrect to interpret it as you only live once so you should do a bunch of really risky but fun things for a day and then live a terrible rest of your life.
