in sex ed at skl we talked bout sex and masturbating - in religious ways and they said it wasn't.

Depends on the religion and your ethical beliefs. In general, it's accepted but not spoken about because people usually are uncomfortable discussing things of a sexual nature.

Its said that it is a part of lust the 7 deadly sin but think about this for a minute before people say its religisoly(sry cant spell) wrong.

Wrath-anger/ we do this when someone annoys us
Sloth-lazy.sadness/ we do this when someone dies
Pride-high self belief/ we must do this to be a leader
Gluttony-eating more then needed/ when we go through puberty we need nutrients and eating more helps
Envy-being envious because someone has something you dont/ Christmas time and contests at school or other wise.
Greed-to want more then needed/ we want to improve orselves beyond expectations.
Lust-self explanitory/ we lust to have sex and helps the population grow.

These we do almost everyday and God forgives because were human. Imperfect is the best perfect. Dont let overly religious people who think that the bible is a book of rules not a guide which is what i belive, take control of your life.
