Hey guys
Short question: I am almost done with my book and it is 50.000+ words now. Most of the websites I've been to state that an adult novel should be no less than 60.000 words, else it is likely that this book will be ignored for being short and be seen as "not worthy of publishing."
What are your opinions?

50,000 words is around 200 pages apparently. Usually the books I read are at least 300 pages (75,000 words) but often more. I say finish it where you're at and try and get it published, if what you're adding is rubbish and just written to bulk up the book then it's not really worth it. The story is what makes a book, not the length of it.

This nailed it.

Also: If it is an adult novel, I would say it should be at least 450 pages. I don't read adult novels, but I like my books over 250 pages, preferably over 350.

Quality over quantity, I say. A book that is long and pointless doesn't deserve as much credit as a book that is short and thoughtful.

Well the additions are not a problem because the story won't end once this first book is finished.
I needed to get it published soon because I want to give my book to someone as a gift. If I finish the entire story here, it will be at least like 90.000 words, but like I said I want to get it finished as soon as possible.
Would it be too lame if I wrote two short books instead of one long one?
