The moderator which closed it did it because it was an old thread . This doesnt make sense to me because i have seen threads which are still being replied to form years like 2010 or later .

The rule for old threads is that when a thread has been dead (not posted at) for 2 or more months, only the Thread Opener can post in it. If others post it'll get locked.
Regarding the threads from 2010, they may have been posted at within the 2 months rule, therefore they're still open
Wonder.

In the future, you should PM the moderator that locked it instead of making a thread. Since it's already here though:
The thread was (most likely) locked because it was bumped. A bumped thread is when someone posts in it but the person before them posted over two months ago. For example: someone posts February 3rd then someone posts May 5th. That gap between the dates is greater than two months so it would be locked.
The two month bump limit is used everywhere in the fourm except P101 which is 3 months (I think), the arcade which doesn't have a limit, and member diaries which are set by the owner of the diary.
The threads that were started in 2010 that you speak of have had a steady pace of people posting. As long as there isn't a two month gap between two posts one after another, it doesn't matter how long ago the thread was made.

Correction to the above: Puberty for Boys and Puberty for Girls have a 2 month bump limit - Questions for Both Boys and Girls has a 3 month limit.
All of the info above is fabulous, so I won't bore you by repeating it. But yeah, it doesn't matter when the thread was created, it just matters when the last post date is.
Wonder.

Ah, I had a feeling it was wrong. I knew something was three months though. Thank you for correcting.

Do you wish for your thread to be reopened?
As you're the original poster you can request for your thread to be reopened.

Just to clarify the context.
I mean if a thread was bumped and locked. If the original poster wishes, they can ask for it be reopened and if a moderator sees no issues with the thread then it can be reopened.
