Asking that is like asking what is the point of anything, it's just there. It's a bit like asking what's the point of tonsils. It's just something you're born with.

What I remember from a sex ed class a few years ago was that they are there to protect from stuff like the sun. You don't want to get a sunburn down there and back when we had no clothes to protect us...
That's pretty much what i was told so yeah, may be completely wrong I don't know.

As someone already said a possible reason could be to protect us from a sunburn down there along with other injuries like that. Another reason I remember coming across was to protect us from some kind of skin burn when having sex. Like it protects us from painful friction. I don't think there's any solid definite reasons.
And yeah they primarily just get in the way and show you're maturing.

The purpose of pubic hair is probably to protect the genitals. It is pretty much there to help keep the genitals clean. The pubic hair would trap particles attempting to reach the genitals such as dirt, small rocks, etc.

From what I've heard, they evolved to make us smelly. To animals - and our ancestors - smell was attractive. It could show when you were fertile and how strong and masculine/feminine you were. So when we evolved away from furryness, we kept the hair only in our sweatyist places - pits and crotch - because that was what was most effective at trapping that smelly, sexy sweat :)

Seems pretty likely. Conrad, PM me, ok?

They are a genetic throwback, we're quickly evolving past them

Otherwise they are just there to keep Nair, Gilette and Schick in business

My biology teacher once said in a sex ed class they might be there: to make us sweat so we smell attractive to women, protect from damage, or so you can see who is sexually mature and who isn't....
But obviously they don't seem to be as important anymore

Tonsils are actually MUCH more important than people give them credit for. They are the largest Lymph nodes in your body and filter out most of the Lymph in your upper body. Without them, the rest of your lymphatic system really has to go into overdrive.

Theres a few reasons for them. One of them is to protect them from injury such as sunburn and other such skin injuries. Another is to keep the genitalia warm, because back in the older days humans didn't have clothes so they were used to prevent them from getting to cold, in the same way the hair on your head, arms and legs do. And the last, and perhaps what was then the most important thing for back then, if for attracting a mate. Nowadays we wear clothes but before women would, as the primitive instinct is, pick the alpha male as the mate. Before we had clothes this would have been based on what is commonly perceived as the biggest sign of manliness- the size of the penis. Now, what's the pubic hair there for I here you asking. Well, if we had no hair then there would be no way of telling where the girls attention would be attracted to. Therefore, the hair is designed to attract the females attention to the penis so they can best choose a mate. On females though I'd say the main reason would be for the men to tell who is sexually mature and as such to who to try to attract as a mate as well.

I agree with Steven.
But it is mainly for warmth.the prime function of hair is to trap air molecules providing an insulating layer. Hence, preventing heat loss to the surroundings when it is cold.

I think it has to do something to cool down when sweating just like arm pit hair.

I still have my tonsils, a lot of my friends don't. I think medicine is moving away from taking them out as routinely.

Warmth I believe..During the harsh Chicago winters, i prefer to have a bush down there, in the summers I prefer it shaved
