The Nexus is a very good device. It runs apps fast, is amazing for the price and has NFC, which the iPad doesn't have. The screen is a bit smaller but you get used to it pretty quickly and it feels light and thin, unlike the iPad which is rather wide.

Nexus.
Avoid all Apple products. I had one, and I can attest to that. Especially if you are the kind of guy that wants to tinker with his device and getting apps that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Get the Nexus 7, that's what I use and have. Its so, so, so much better. its faster, thinner, it gives you the creative options to customize that you cant do with anything Apple. I use 4shared now because I can download apps free without a jailbreak unlike Apple. Nexus wins.

I'd say get an iPad, more reliable as Nexus have had issues. Also you can easily jailbreak an iPad to do anything you want. I've done that with mine. Through Cydia you can install program to speed up all actions by 4 times. Don't think you can do that with an android ;)

Umm... well acutally...
One can simply unlock and root the device using a pc, allowing the user to access the root system folder which can then allow the user to change things about the device, and then you could even install your own modified firmware, flash custom roms, cyanogenmod, etc.
Then if you wanted too, you could tell the device to overclock the processor, which will allow the device to run "faster", but the device will probably experience heating up and possibly damaging the processor.
I highly recommend that you don't overclock apple branded chips, as they are very specific to run at what they were meant to run at.
And what exactly did you do to make it run "4 times faster"? Where are your statistics/results and measurements?

Hey! Apple fanboy! Yes you can! :P Rooting bud, the Android equivalent of jailbreaking. Everything Charlie said above me is correct. :)

I don't have it set to run 4 times faster myself, but I have set it slightly faster. I touch an app and it opens instantly, there is no lag or wait. It's called Speed Intensifier.
We have a special term in Australia for rooting something and it fits perfectly for android :D

Speed intensifier is actually 2 different software programs.
One is a CPU clocker, which in this case is known as "Winterboard". This program allows a simple under, standard, and overclocking options for the CPU. Unfortunately, the program doesn't tell you how much it's actually raising the processing speed of the CPU, so if i were you, I'd set the overclocking at it's lowest to reduce the chances of it damaging the CPU, conserve battery life, and keep the phone from getting uncomfortably hot.
The second program bundled with the Winterboard is an animation scaler. This program changes the standard animations used on ios by making them shorter and take less time. This gives the user the illusion that the device is running "faster". It makes the interface feel more "snappy".
Android users have long been able to set the speed of the animations. Here's a screenshot from my (unrooted) galaxy s3 displaying the animation options in the developer settings tab in the regular settings:
5458
I can adjust the window, transition, and animator duration scalers without having to give myself root privileges. I keep the animations at about half seed (aka twice as fast as normal) and my phone feels a lot snappier and quicker than stock ios devices. It's quite a nice trick.
