I was just wondering if many of you guys have been told that it's wrong or a sin to wank. And what you think about it. I've been told that by a priest. I sometimes feel guilty, but I can't stop. I've tried a couple of times and lasted a week or two maybe.

I'm not religious or anythink, but I've heard of that. From what I hear (as I'm not in to reading it), it doesn't directly say it's wrong to masturbate in the bilbe either (or if it's even in any other religious texts either). It's as much a bodily function as it is that wee need to pee.
I bet you the triest that told you does it!

It is a sin within the fundamental religions however my religion doesn't care what you do in the bedroom as long as its moral and legal. So what I'm saying is priests say it is but its not there place to judge you. I say go for it.

I have never been told that -

Its okay to masturbate - its a normal part of growing up and puberty.
its as normal to masturbate as it is not to or choose not to.

But hey bro wank and be happy - cool -

Dude, I am catholic I respect my religion but I think that is normal to wank. Nothing to do with religion is on the human being nature. My bro asked me once the same question, cuz we are in a catholic school, and some day he came worry. BUT he got it from a friend not from a priest, never heard a priest in my school saying that.

this may be controversial but worth considering - religion celebrates doing things openly and fairly. Not to hide things. Is wanking something that brings everyone joy and can be done openly? Does it benefit those around you? Does it benefit you?

Now I have to admit...i have a wanking addiction myself but there is a part of me everytime that feels guilty about it. Surely it is so natural and normal and okay I shouldn't feel ashamed or guilty right?

Been told it's a sin by a priest and nuns at school. I feel bad doing it but I'm hooked now and can not stop. Up until a kid told me how to JO I never did, just had wet dreams for release. I sorta wish I could go back to the way I was before my friend told me about it. I know it isn't bad for me but still I'd like to stop if I could.

If anybody tells you that it is sinful, they are wrong. To my knowledge, none of the holy scriptures from the main religions actually say that it is a sin to pleasure yourself. Put it this way: Your body matures and releases chemicals into your body, your brain reacts to these chemicals by sending a set of thoughts to your brain subconsciously, these thoughts provoke more subconscious thoughts: sex drive, you then obey these bio-mechanical commands and pleasure yourself. That is all it is, obeying bio-mechanical commands. If it is not harming anyone else, then I think it is a fine thing to do for anyone that practices Christianity.

Religion is one of those things where you just smile and wave and do the opposite thing, haha. But really religions are becoming out dated, an actual persons moral compass is 100 times better than the bible and probably most religious texts. There is no actual verse that says masturbation is a sin. If you haven't read the bible, there are tons of immoral acts that happen in it and it's deemed 'moral' because an invisible sky-dady says so (no offense). Religion makes people feel guilty when it doesn't need to, and people need to get away from that. Be religious if you want, but don't let it control your life.

I have by a religious kid in my class. I am not a very religious person but i respect what people think but they dont need to go around telling me what they think is right or wrong. I am going to determine that on my own. that is how i feel about it when people say that it is bad or wrong to do it.

It seems impossible to stop anyway. But it's a bit of a pity to spoil something good and private by feeling guilty.

You can certainly view masturbation done alone, in private as a fundamentally selfish activity because the pleasure is experienced exclusively by the the person doing it. However bear in mind:

1. Compared to some other other selfish activities it has no adverse effect on anyone else.

2. By being self sufficient the masturbator is less likely to pester other people to join him in sexual activity which can be an advantage when the other person doesn't want to.

3. That is does not provide pleasure to anyone but the masturbator can be viewed not so much as an argument for abstaining from it but for sharing it.

With regard to religion there is the often quoted story of onan which seems to me to be about coitus interruptus rather than masturbation and the apparent view of the Catholic church that any time you ejaculate when you have arranged things such that pregnancy could not be the result rather than letting God decide it is a sin.

For me the Catholic view seems thoroughly unpractical and I think it comes not from God but from leaders of the church empire building, i.e. increasing the number of followers through a high birth rate.

I was told the opposite by my dad and he gave me a little book about it and wet dreams and stuff. I think grownups who say it's wrong were probably told the same when they were kids and always felt guilty about it. A priest if forbidden to, so of course he's going to say it's wrong. Every guy does it. Even animals do it. But... sometimes I feel a little bit like a perv about some stuff I think about while doing it though...

Thanks for that Kenny. There seems to be a way to use masturbation as a way of actually AVOIDING sin. If it keeps us from using other people just for our own pleasure, then it's a good thing.

I wouldn't like to do it in a discussion group anyway :-)

More seriously though Peter, how do you feel about it yourself? I heard it hinted at in my church youth group too, without actually coming out and saying "don't do it!".

At first it did bother me to j/o and I did feel guilty about it. Talking about it with friends and reading about it I discovered it's natural and you shouldn't feel guilty.

Always by priest, none by rents, Im not believer, is more credible Harry Potter than Bible, so I dont give a s*** about that, my moto is LIVE AND LET LIVE,
Dont worry what they do is to put ideas regarding what is most natural on our head to control you and if you start the chat, well the priest might want to show you how the priest do that and give you a help in "hand".:yeah:

Well, you're wrong actually. Not all religions (including big ones like the Catholic Church) base their religious teachings on scripture. Almost all of their teachings are based on what they call Natural Law, which is everything that can be known through reason and logic alone, only. I asked one of my teachers (I go to a private Catholic school) and he explained it this way: Masturbation is immoral because it contradicts the purpose of our sexual organs, which is procreation, not pleasure. It is only acceptable if done by a husband and wife as foreplay, but otherwise it is immoral. Just because it is natural, doesn't mean it is good.

Logically it makes sense, but then again as a healthy activity and in my opinion an important part of growing up, I choose to ignore the Church's teaching on it.

Im not religious at all, so Im sorry if this following post offends you... Just a heads up.

Religion is absolute nonsense; especially nowadays with all these 'extremists' and overly obsessive personalities.
The bible is FULL of contradictions... you dont have to look far to find them... just google it and you'll be reading for hours.

I remember this quote from my RE class at school: "In the eyes of God, we are all equal"... so why is it that the church is against gays and gay marriage?? (and why has it been illegal up until now is probably another topic)
I dont even know what kind of logic they use!

If a priest is telling you that it is a sin; ask him, where in the 10 commandments does it imply such a thing? You're not worshipping a false god, killing anyone, taking his name in vain (well... I guess some people may- but its not like EVERYONE does it because that how it happens), youre not stealing anything, as far as im aware masturbating doesnt make you dishonour your mother and father, youre definitley not committing adultery, nor are you jealous of your neighbours house... I could go on but I cant be bothered.

One more thing; catholics believe that Adam and Eve were the first 2 human beings, Yes?

Well then, we are all related and so every single relationship is incestuous... I cant see the church approving of that?

Never been told it was wrong. In fact, my mom sat me down and had That Talk with me, telling me it was normal and everybody does it, even her (OMG did not need that info!). This happened shortly after she walked into my room just as I was jacking it and having an orgasm. You just can't stop at that point, so I shut my eyes and kept going.

I lock my door now.

Look, the fact it's that yes, it's true. According to most religions, masturbate is a sin. But, who is 100% perfect without sins? And who are we to judge.

1 more thing ... you can be sure that your priest j/o more often that all of us, just he doesn't admit it.
