Erm, so people who have asthma, can you sorta maybe describe your firsthand experiences with it? 'Cause I'm going to see my doctor on Thursday and I'm going to ask her about doing whatever tests you do for asthma because it's only just occurred to me after 14 years of breathing problems that hey, maybe I should ask!

This morning I had to run for my bus again and, while this is usually near impossible for me to do without gasping for air after about 30 seconds of running, today was even worse because I had to run back home, grab a book and then REALLY run for my bus. I was nearly on the ground at the bus stop wheezing after this and it took me at least half an hour to catch my breath and another hour and a half to stop coughing/my chest to ease up and stop hurting and for me to stop feeling light-headed.

Anyway, I've always had this problem, especially in gym class, on the playground as a kid, during swimming lessons, etc. I just run out of breath really quickly and my dad always used to tell me I'm just out of shape. Thing is, I walk quite briskly everywhere nearly everyday even if I'm not the most active person otherwise. That's enough to stay in decent physical shape. I don't have a weight problem (under or over). So it just seemed strange that there are days when I walk up a flight of stairs quickly then lie down on my bed and suddenly I'm breathing heavily, trying to catch my breath? Now I've continuously brushed it off and forced myself to seriously keep going even if I'm having problems, knowing almost nothing about asthma so I'm wondering if it's a possibility.

Anyway, I'm just curious if this sounds familiar to anyone? Obviously none of you are doctors and I am going to see one but I just seriously thought this was normal until now and everyone was like this.

I have Asthma, and when I do physical activity I get short of breath easier than most and it also feels like your breathing is restricted at times and harder to get oxygen to the lungs. I am also overweight so it doesn't help but running up stairs has me out of breath but not so much that I have to lie down.

I'm... not sure? I don't know if it's that feeling exactly but sometimes it just feels no matter how much I'm trying to breathe, it just burns and hurts my chest and I just can't get enough air?

...I guess I could go run after my bus again and test this theory but I don't feel particularly inclined to do so.

I lose stamina quickly and need to breath if running for more then 100m. If I push to much I'll collapse, I can't physically do a lot of sports that require stamina.

Yeah, if this is me not having enough stamina that would just be... sad. I can probably get about 10m before I start having trouble breathing.

Oh I meant I can't run after 100m, I have to stop moving completely and breath for 1-2 minutes to recover. If your talking about having trouble it takes me about 20-30m before my sides start hurting and I start taking bigger breaths.

I have asthma. Had it since I was born. When I run alot I start to get out of breath easily and I feel like I am choking.

And also, last year over Christmas I suffered an Asthma attack that could've sent me packing and pushing daisies. So yeah, its still with me. Although it only happened because I was near poison when they were fumigating and when my uncle smoked alot in the house.

I have a much more serious breathing condition than asthma, but whenever I run, I get short of breathe pretty easily, and it also feels like you aren't breathing the best you can breathe. So that's when I use my inhaler, it seems as if I can breathe 2x as good as before I use my inhaler. Wind, dust, allergies, etc. really makes your lungs worse, whenever its really windy I don't go outside.

It does sound like you may have asthma. I've had it since I've been born, yet it's been a mild case of it, so I can still play many sports. I've kind of just "gotten over it", for the most part. Definitely go to the doctor, and if it looks like you may need an inhaler, use it. And for ways of getting over it, personally I think long distance running is the best cure, especially if you are in areas with different elevations. Take it easy at first, then progressively increase your time running and your running speed, and you should notice signs of improvement. Note, that you should always keep an inhaler near by when doing any intense physical labor such as running or climbing. I've "gotten over" Asthma, yet I've had a recent incident while wrestling where I fell down and could not get my breath back, so I took a puff of my inhaler, and was good as new in no time.

Forgot I made this thread. Well, I was prescribed an inhaler. She doesn't think I have asthma like... everyday stuff. My doctor thinks it's exercise-triggered which sounds pretty reasonable so she said to carry around the inhaler and the next time it happens and if the inhaler helps, it's asthma. Seems simple enough, lol. Just gotta go for a run or something.

I have had asthma my entire life. Both exertionally induced and allergically. What you have could definitely be exegetical asthma and ou should see your doctor. Early diagnosis and they can provide you with a rescue inhaler or medicine to take daily. I have been on affair for years now in a high dosage. It holds mr back ad really auks to have asthma. I recommend you see a dr.
