I am 14, male and shy. Lately I have just really wanted a girlfriend but I am too shy to start up a conversation to anyone who isn't a friend. I know that I should 'just be myself' but once you have become the quiet/shy guy, it is hard to even start talking to someone let alone asking a girl out. Please help me, I am worried that I will stay like this.

I can be the same way. Not so much anymore, but up until a few years ago people actually thought I was mute. x.x
Any who, don't think about dating first. Make friends with girls. Find a common interest to talk about. And, I know, lame and overdone, but homework is a wonderful excuse to talk to someone. Don't have dating in mind to start off. Just make a friend and it could lead somewhere, and if not, at least it helps you become more confident. :)

Dude, don't be shy. It will get you no where. While you're all quite in the corner saying nothing and crushing on some girl fifty guys are already getting her number and talking to her and getting in good. Forget about being shy. It how to get a girl and being shy. You need to think about how not to be shy. What you should be asking is how do you get confedence.
Sports, man. Seriously. I was shy too until I joined random sport teams.

Sports isn't always the best idea. I for one have little to no interest in sports, and find playing them to be extremely boring.

I also have no interest in sports i'm quiet, sometimes shy. If you're the intellectual type some girls like that kind of stuff so... in a nutshell, use big words in the correct context, complement their complexion, NOT THEIR ASS OR BOOBS smart girls want smart guys not some "playa" so don't try to be one. Good Luck:)

What delaney said, and also, some girls like shy guys. They might think it's cute, or whatever. Don't see shyness as a total crippling problem, because it isn't.

You can use ShyTap.com (http://shytap.com/) - you need a Facebook account to login. Find your crush and tap her. She won't know about it until she taps you too. But you would have to spread the word about the app among your friends, or just send her a direct invitation (although this would partially unveil your intention...so it's up to you). It's OK to tap her before she starts using the app.

Starting the conversation is the hardest part. Once you're talking to her, you kind of have no choice but to keep talking so you might find it makes it a bit easier. It might sound full on, but get a friend to tell the girl you like something that she has to talk to you about. Once she's talking to you, you can't exactly just sit there not talking, so you might find yourself feeling more comfortable talking to her.

Bro just be her friend like bebefleur said. You never want to go in with the mentality of " hey let's be bf and gf" you need to get to know her more, and if your to shy of just being friends then be friends with her friend then be friends with your crush, yea it takes time but dont be afraid/shy of her, worst thing that can happen is she laughs/giggles and blushes and smiles at you, flatered that you like her :P ( that's a win/win ) but listen to the girl go with the mindset of friendship
