Everyone has their own kink in how they do it :P I don't wash my hands myself, I don't see the point. (But then again, I never wash my hands, only when I really have to :P) And I don't wash afterwards, I just wipe it away on something..

Personally when I masturbate I don't wash them before unless I have something on them that I wouldn't want on my genitals. When I masturbate I usually was them after. Although I really don't find washing your hands everytime before is a strange or bad idea.

But why should one wash before or even after? For girls. I would say - maybe - if they fingering etc, but for boys it is not at all required.

Not specifically before no. I usually wash my hands when they're dirty, so they're usually clean when I start. So I do wash them when I'm done :-)

I usually only wash my hands if they are visibly dirty. I know it's not the most sanitary habit, but I'm comfortable with it.

People just do whatever helps for them. I dont think any germ-related problems can really occur with your you-know-what, not unless you're constantly touching tip of it, because that's really the only place where anything bad can easily get in.

Personally, I don't. I've never had any problems from not doing so.

I remember seeing this discussed previously, maybe here or maybe on GovTeen. It started with people talking about washing afterwards and a guy called Christian suggested there was a greater risk of getting an infection by spreading germs onto your penis from not having washed before starting compared to not washing the semen off them at the end.

I am not sure the risks are that high either way.

If you want a good plan for hand washing the times to do it are:

1. Before eating or preparing food if there is any possibility that you will handle the food.
2. During food preparation between handling raw meat or fish and something that will not get cooked before being eaten, for example salad.
3. After defacating.
4. After you have got something on them that is either an irritant or poisonous though a better plan might be to wear disposable gloves. Laundry detergent would fit into the irritant category.
