What's causing this?

Lately, the first knuckle, the one that connects finger to hand, of my right index finger has been hurting on and off. I play piano, violin, and guitar and am unsure if any of those are the cause. I also type a lot - writing stories, school papers, or here on VT. only that one finger hurts.

It may be caused from all the typing that you are doing. Try taking short breaks every so often to give yourself a rest in between writing. It is unlikely that playing your musical instruments would cause this unless you have strained your finger during practice, or have been practicing a lot.

Could be nerve related. Check with your doctor.

All of those can affect it. When I played flute every day it bothered my fingers a lot, paried with typing and writing a lot.

Well I do practice every day. But also, it's never predictable.
