Hi guys, I feel like I'm on the brink of developing an eating disorder. I'm 16 and I know I'm quite thin - I'm about 5'6" and weigh about 110lb - but I still keep finding parts of me that I find disgusting, and even fat. A couple of times I've tried to go without food - I couldn't do it though, luckily I suppose, except that it made me feel like a thousand times worse.
I don't know what to do. I don't want to become anorexic but at the same time it sounds like a fantastic idea - even tempting . The worse part is that my holidays have just started so now I have less people scrutinizing my eating habits, and so I feel like I may slip into it. What do you suggest I do?

Welcome to VT! Anyway you need to get to the bottom of why you feel that your ugly/fat because in reality your not. a counselor/Psychologist can help you. you can't try to do this alone, Before you do anything please talk to someone. not eating is the worst thing you can do to yourself right now. Hang in there.

Thanks for the welcome =] There is a problem with your answer though, my mom wouldn't take me to see a psychologist, especially not for just thinking that I'm fat. She would tell me to stop being silly, that I'm not fat etc - and we couldn't afford to see a psychologist either. I know I need to talk to someone though.

Well your Mom doesn't necessarily need to know your visiting a counselor/psychologist do you go to school? If so you should have a guidance counselor of some sort. And they can help you get hooked up with the right people, but if its at school it shouldn't cost you anything. But if necessary you need to talk to your Mom about going to a counselor/psychologist, you don't have to tell your Mom why your going to counseling, because its supposed to be confidential. Just tell you Mom that you need to talk to someone.
Hang in there

Does your mom know the extent of your anxiety about your weight? No one sees a psychologist becaise they're 'just' anything, they go because they;re hurting really bad or they have a really bad problem or they're afraid of something really bad happening to themselves. All of which apply to you.
Sounds like the issue need to be sharing with your mom accurately and vividly what you're experiencing so she recognizes the extent of your turmoil.
As for the cost, there's low cost therapy available everywhere, your school guidance counselor or doctor can direct you to them. But first, you need to make your mom aware of how badly this problem is for you. And that might take a few talks with her, keep talking with her.

Yeah, I'm at school. Unfortunately I'm not back at school until late January - I live in Australia. My mom doesn't know anything about my issue with my weight, I'm her confidante which for some reason made me close up about anything affecting me. I'll go talk to my guidance counselor as soon as school lets back in - and hope like hell I can discipline myself until then. Thanks for your help =]

Do you exercise? It could be that your build just looks a bit off balance. If you're thin but you have little areas of fat just get out and exercise; the fat will disappear if it's not supposed to be there and your muscles will fill out a little. Just don't starve yourself. A healthy diet and exercise is the best thing you can do for yourself. Good luck.
