The food is already starting to build up at the Springdale Police Department – those caught speeding during the holidays can pay the majority of their fine with canned food.

"It's only going to cost you $25 and 10 canned goods to pay out your entire speeding ticket," said Officer Mike Ott.

Twenty-five dollars automatically goes to the State of Ohio, but for now, Springdale's share can be paid off with items such as canned chili.

"I mean it's a great program," said said Natasha Miller who was pulled over for speeding. "Kind of 'sucks' the way I had to donate, but it's worth it."
Springdale Police bring the food to area food bank shelves as well as individuals whose names are submitted anonymously.
"
It was like around Christmas," said Janet Jones. "Things are getting tight for the presents, you got food, but barely you know – and then when you get this you just boost up – and to me that was the best year I ever had!"

Jones had four officers bring her boxes of food last year. Springdale Police are taking donations at the department from non-speeders as well.
