By "old", we mean that the last post in the thread is that old, not the first.

While on the topic of old threads, and this is just my .02, I think that if the post is on topic, bump the thread, instead of making an entirely new thread and cluttering up the forums. Plus, what if the person bumping the thread needed support, and instead of bumping the thread, he was told to make a new thread, instead of just being referred to a post above. IDK, JMO.

It doesn't clutter the forums if more than one thread is made about a similar topic over a period of two months. By that time, the thread with that topic will be pages and pages back on the board index.
In the help/advice/psych. ward, members should always make their own threads, even if it's about a similar issue to someone else. This way, they are guaranteed to find replies which are personally directed at them, rather than trying to adapt replies in other threads to their situation.

Questions for both Boys and Girls has a 3 month bump limit.

..and the OP (Original Poster) is allowed to bump his/her own thread regardless of the age

I have a possibly dumb question on this topic (i did check rules and faq and do searches first i promise!)

If its the last post that determines if its old, then i guess that means something thats bumped once a month for two years is fine?

BUT, if something went over the 2 or 3 month limit, what about if that happened a while ago and it has come back to life since?

So for example,
1 Nov 2012 .... 20 Nov .... 10 Dec .... 30 Dec .... 15 Jan 2013 .... 17 Mar .... 22 Apr .... 25 Apr .... 26 Apr .... 26 Apr .... 28 Apr .... 29 Apr .... 1 May .... 1 May ....

Is it wrong to join in the conversation? What should we do instead, if anything? What if instead the thread got over-bumped a couple of days ago? Do we make it worse if we then speak on it?

I see sometimes threads get locked if the bumping happened maybe recently-ish, even if the conversation starts back up, but sometimes not if it was a while ago (i think!!) but i'm not really sure. Sometimes i want to join in and comment on threads that had an over-bump somewhere in its life time, but i'm not sure if that's bad and i don't want to be part of the problem!! This is not meant as a smartass question i promise, its genuine intrest and i'm not trying to be difficult.

Mine humble thanks, o mighty and wise guardians of the temple of vee-tee.

If you see it has been bumped by someone who is not the owner, you would just be helping bump it.

It is technically wrong, however you won't be penalized as long as you didn't do the actual bumping. You should report the thread http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/images/styles/fblue/buttons/report.gif (with that image <---) and a mod will lock it.

It's always good to check dates before posting, but even I've posted in a thread someone else has bumped. :P

I hope this answers your question, but if it doesn't, feel free let me know what you wanted to know.

Thanks Bebe. I think i'm probably doing your sig, reserving the right to think wrongly .... :)

I edited to try to make the question a bit clearer but not sure if i succeeded.

The thing is, what you say means to post on something, to be sure you are doing the right thing, you can only do it by going and checking the dates on every single post in the whole thread to make sure there was never a gap, and that can take ages on long running threads.

And then all too often you can end up sat there going, well, i just waded through 10 threads, and every one of them i had something to say, and every one of them had a time gap there somewhere, so now i have a bunch of things to say in conversations that are going on right now, but can't post any of them.

Again not trying to be difficult just wondering if i have understood this all right and 100000 apologies in advance if it seems like im being awkard, i just dont want to be causing any more work for mods!

Aha scratch that, already got the answer. Thanks Val!!

I was a bit hessitant to use the report button too much cos it always felt like i might be setting off claxons and flashing lights and then people be like, urgh it's him AGAIN, he just called 911 because he burnt the toast again .... but it sounds like it's a legit thing to do for minor-ish stuff like bumps? Watch out, i might use it more now .... hehe

Thankyou!!!

It's never wrong to report. Well I mean obviously if you report like non bumped threads as bumps or whatever yeah then it's wrong but yeah. We always appreciate reports and you can never over report. :)

You can always report anything - bumps, bad pictures, inappropriate threads, etc.
