My Mum Hates Me Talking Online.

The only things she really likes me to use are Facebook, Youtube and CoD. If she found out I was on forums, talking to strangers. She would rant at me. How can I convince here there is nothing wrong with forums.

Edit: She also hates me watching porn, how can I get her to let me watch this?

Maybe just try explaining to her, calmly and rationally, why you want to post to forums, how they are and maybe aren't safe, what you would do to keep yourself safe, and things like that. Facebook seems to me the most potentially unsafe place on the internet. As far as porn goes, if NZ is anything like the US you can't if you're a minor, and she could get into trouble for letting you, so I'd give up on that one.

Don't tell her? It's great that she wants to keep you safe, but she also needs to let you make your own choices. If you're educated on internet safety, and know not to trust anyone you don't know, then there shouldn't be a problem.

As others have said, don't tell her. I think their should be a little child/mother privacy thing that involves trust. I told my mom only because she's nosey and sneaks up on me when I'm on the computer.

Honestly, though, maybe show her some of what you talk about on some of the forums (the good stuff, obviously)? If she sees there's nothing bad about anything on there, then she'll loosen up. That's how I got my mother to stop obsessing about my Tumblr.

I guess a lot of parents hear bad stuff about internet forums and chat rooms - they judge
then say - often without knowing -

I am totally open about what forums I am on and show both parents - after a whiles its just like okay so maybe that would work - trust maybes has to be earned - and its up to you to be open and say -

Convincing her to letting you watch porn is nearly impossible, you can still do it, just be discrete and moderated. Since you are most likely underage it is supposed to be illegal for you to watch porn. Apart from that you might never convince her entirely, just tell her that you are really careful when you talk to people and try to not give away personal information.
