Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner. I prefer a Republic with democratic functions (like the United States) to prevent mob rule. Without a Republic and a constitution in a democracy, 51% can do what they want no matter what the other 49% thinks. Just because the 49% gets outvoted doesn't make their concerns not valid. A republic allows the minority to be protected.

I believe a direct democracy to be the ideal form of government, but that it is not feasible for large countries or ones that are too culturally heterogeneous.
With democracy -
- Every vote is equal, unlike in the US where a vote from someone from Wyoming is worth THREE TIMES what someone's vote from Florida is worth
- Hence, in a republic, political minorities are "protected" by being over-represented - think of Congress, which is much more bipartisan than the predominantly moderate population
- Citizens vote on what's best for them, as opposed to elected officials voting for what helps the corporations who sponsor them

Ditto. Exactly. All small parties being flushed out in favor of the two major parties is NOT fair.

Monarchy is something that needs to be abolished, the United Kingdom's is more of a symbol of its former glorious past.

Disagreed...Modern society needs democracy to prevent the science and knowledge from being some kind of weapons against humanity...

I agree with randomnessqueen.
Democracy is too flawed and needs to be replaced with something new or old.

This is well said and I agree with the explanation.

What? if anything it's religion that prevents science and knowledge advancing, if anything democracy aides it

What he meant was that democracy prevents Science and Knowledge from being used as a weapon, which sadly it does. Religion doesn't slow the advance of science either. If anything, it helps advance our technology even further.
Democracy is something that should be thrown out the window and replaced with something newer and more modern that helps promote a balance between Races, Religions, Homosexual/Heterosexual, Religion/Science.
AND where it is illegal to attack someone about their race, religion, sexuality and their view on science and religion. Its not right that Atheists get all the right to attack religious people for being religious. Vice versa aswell. Rights need to be balanced. Democracy promises everything, makes a few promises come true, never falls through on the rest of them, and no matter what the hell it says, democracy has never promoted equality.
A new system needs to be incorporated that allows for true equality. (screw communism)

haha that's complete bollocks. Look at the the Catholic church in the 1600's, despite scientific evidence they continued to believe that firstly the world was flat and then in turn that the world was at the centre of the university. Look at Galilieo who was placed under house arrest for his modern and correct idea's because the catholic church thought it would be wrong. The church have opposed any advances being made in stem cells, so no the church doesn't help technology at all.
Democracy already offers a balance, no matter what age, colour or sex you are you are able to vote and stand for office, if your a fascist you can stand for office. It allow's true equality. I respect your want for a tolerant society but I still value free speech to a degree, there's a difference between debate and a hate crime.

The religion didn't stop science anymore. Most of the scientists in Eastern Europe and Asia and Africa were religious people who served the science well.Maybe the Roman Catholic church prevented science from advances but we cannot deny what Byzantines and Eastern Christians has done for science..
-Anyway i neither disagree with democracy nor agree with it,Some of the rules of freedom changed from useful and good things to bad things,But still in this age we are still in need of Democracy until something else takes its place...
