Underground, in caves, in iron golems. Dig straight down and you'll probably find a cave.

Iron is everywhere in minecraft. Your best bet is to find a cave and look around for some iron ore. Once you get it, you need to smelt or cook it in a furnace.

Adding on, Iron is generally pretty close to the surface. You will find it on the lower levels at times, but it is generally pretty close to the surface.

it appears from level 63 all the way down to one. and it is not that rare
