I was baptised a Roman Catholic but personally have no faith of my own in regards to religion.

My best friend and I were talking about getting married. Literally just going to Vegas one summer and getting a Civil Marriage. First of all, my best friend and I are both female and our friendship is utterly and purely platonic. We were just thinking that neither of us are going to love another friend as much as we do each other and it's the kind of stunt we'd both end up pulling. We do some crazy things. xP

Now, my question is: if I find someone later in life who I adore romantically above and beyond and decide I want to marry them and be with them forever, after divorcing my friend in the Civil Marriage can I get married in a Roman Catholic Church? Personally, I wouldn't care if I couldn't have it in a church. However, my parents would be disappointed and I wouldn't want to put my new financé out because I went to Vegas to marry a friend.

If it's not possible in the Roman Catholic Church, how about Church of Ireland? That would acceptable to my parents.

Although I don't know how they'd feel if I ran away to get married to my best friend. xD

Personally I don't think it's right to enter a marriage for frivolous reasons. That being said, if your marriage is never consummated I believe it could be ended by annulment rather than divorce. Not sure the Church would marry you if you'd been married to a woman, though.
