There are always those people that question everything that they've been taught. Ever seen The Matrix? Everything around you, could be the product of a supercomputer that we are all connected to.

Take the water that you drink. Is it really water? You'll automatically say yes, because that is what you've been taught to think.

How about the cars that drive down the street. Are they really cars? Once again, they are, because that is what you've been taught to believe.

Here's a good real life example: My father. Is he really my father? Well, that is what I've been taught to believe. A few weeks ago, I was told otherwise.

Well, there are people who believe that the royal family are secretly shape-shifting reptilian aliens, so I guess it's totally possible that some people believe the world is flat.

i dont see why not. i dont necessarily believe its flat, but i support them in their beliefs.
none of you have actually experienced seeing the earth as sphereical, only pictures, so you are only going off the trust of the 'officials'.
i believe that the earth may not be round, and i cant know until ive experienced it.

It's scientifically impossible. The world can not just fold up in a matter of months. Look, if the world were flat, we would eventually sail off the Earth.

I don't believe it but I think other people can believe it. I don't want to fight about religion but some people believe religious stuff that is a lot more unprovable than the shape of the earth.

Yeah, unfortunately there are still people who believe the earth is flat...I think there are still people who believe the Earth is the center of the universe as well. There are people who believe in all sorts of crazy stuff that has been otherwise proven.

i don't believe that the earth is flat. but there are some who still try to propagate that theory. unfortunately, it's not cutting it with our generation. if you happen to be one who believes in it, well... be my guest.

Well, some people can't point out Canada on a map of North America, so why not? Anything's possible :).

Well there's supporting a belief in something that isn't concrete or that cant be proven or disproven like god, but then there's supporting a belief in something that can be ruled out as wrong.
That's like saying "I support people thinking that gravity isn't real"

And really, would years of navigation around the world proving that it is a sphere REALLY be a hoax put on by the 'officials'????

If Earth is flat, how can I get to Alaska from Kamchatka without falling into the void? Or go to North America if I go from central Siberia through North Pole?

There are tribes of isolated people all over the world. I'm not surprised if there are people who think the world is flat, and that the sun is a god.

Since when isolated tribes have a website? Those are modern people.

god can be proven, but thats a different argument.
im saying, you personaly dont know it to be true, you are just trusting those who have said so. and remember, im not saying that its not true. i dont think you should try and go experiencing everysingle thing to make sure its true. i think, if youre not going to experience for yourself, then the knowledge is worthless, so dont care whether its true or not.
thats not a good analogy, gravity is something you experience directly every day.
the reason i quote officials, is because people take any figure with a phd and put them up on a pedistal. and treat them like their word is infallible now, and are unable to make the connection they are no different from them.

That is such an ignorant mindset.
If you didn't need to worry about things that you're not going to experience, imagine how many things you would be ignorant of.
How can you seriously say that knowledge can ever be worthless? Even seemingly purposeless knowledge has worth.

im just saying,if you never experience it, then you never make use of it, until you experience it, you dont know it, and once you experience it, you will know it.
if you havent experienced it, its not truly knowledge, its just faith.

Wow. Has this open my eyes. The earth is flat. Then the earth must be the center of the universe. The earth doesn't move while evrything goes around it. Gravity holds us to the earth so sooner or later everything will slam into the earth due to gravity. Unless it reaches the weightless zone between earth and the moon and everything will return. But then stars may be the soulls of kings who ruled wisely in the past. MMm Lots to think about.

I believe there are people out there that believe it because people really are that ignorant or stupid. Nothing wrong with ignorance, it's just not knowing. Like tribes of people that don't have contact with the rest of the world, they don't know and probably don't care. More interested in hunting or whatever they do to live.
