Hey, this maybe a stupid stupid statement but would it not be beneficial to the site to control usernames more? I mean I've seen people called "fapper" and "dildo lover" I mean it just shows these people are obsessed with sex so surely it would mean they are more of a danger to the site? Also its not exactly attractive to New members. It's just a thought but would it not be helpful to tell people to choose something normal?

I agree.

Usually mods/admins have them change it I'm pretty sure. When you see a name like that, it usually doesn't last long. I think it's safe to say most of them are banned.
I really wanna say to put a filter on usernames, but that complicates things because most people don't know that you can have spaces in your username. Someone could try to get the name "Stuffapple" or something like that but it has "fap" in the middle of it.

Should this be in Suggestions?

I like the idea but I don't know how to go about doing it. As Tyler said, it is hard to put a filter. I would read these forums before I became a member and saw names like "sexluver" and "lukin4babes"...it discouraged me from joining...

I honestly got quite a kick out of seeing the person named: dildo lover. :lol3: Yeah, I defenitaly agree with you though. It's not good for the site image.

That one was added into the filter right afterwards, I was pretty surprised it hadn't been in there already.

Wait... there's a filter? How does that work with my example?

There is a username filter on almost any site you go on, it just depends what they have added to it. They're not too difficult to get around, but if you get around it your username will either be requested to be changed, changed or your account will just be banned if it's really bad.

Your example is a good one, that's why certain words can't be included into username filters (which is why I said they aren't hard to get around). If the name John is put into the filter, the name Johnathan would also be disallowed.

So if they spelt it like different than the way you have in the filter like sexluver like he said instead of sexlover the filter wouldn't block it??

I'm speaking from a techical point here, rather than from this site specifically, but with basic controls, yes. I have heard in the early days of parental controls, a search on "Scunthorp" would be banned due to the 2nd to 5th letter in that word! There are far more technical tools out there, but considering how much those sorts of things cost to support and maintain, I'd expect those sorts of tools on a major bank site, as opposed to a young teen user friendly site like this that has limited funding.
