BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Two people were killed and 23 were injured after two bombs detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday.
Competitors and race organizers were crying as they fled the chaos. Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.
Witnesses reported hearing two explosions, just seconds apart, on the north side of Boylston Street near the marathon's photographers bridge just before 3 p.m. Fox 25's Maria Stephanos, whose husband had just completed the race, reported that at least one of the explosions appeared to come from the inside of a building, possibly Marathon Sports.
"I was right there, I saw a plume of smoke coming from a building," said Stephanos.
Video from SkyFox showed blood on the ground near the finish line. A Fox 25 photographer at the scene reported seeing a number of victims with lost limbs.
The Boston Marathon's Twitter account reported that the explosions were as the result of bombs being detonated.
It was not immediately known how many people were injured or the extent of their injuries.
The Boston Marathon was suspended. Runners were being stopped at mile 26.
The Massachusetts Ave bridge was closed and the MBTA had suspended service on the B and C lines of the Green Line.
The air space over Cooley Square was closed and SkyFox was ordered out of the area at about 3:40 p.m.
At least three are confirmed dead as of the time of posting this.

You can't even have a race w/o something. Feel bad for the ones who were right there.

What a tragic event to occur, and two are confirmed dead, but it could change.

I know the bombings at the finish line happened at 2:50...at what time did the JFK Library Bombing happen? Does anyone know? I can't find the time that happened.
It's too early and too jumbled to tell, but I'm thinking this might be a Timothy McVeigh-type person, if it WAS a trashcan bomb as has been reported by some witnesses, that seems like something an individual would do, rather than foreign terrorists.

News is now saying "100+" injured, and that the library explosion doesn't appear to be related.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that today is tax day? Or the new anti-gun legislation in the Northeast?

Thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims hurt by this tragedy---12 years since the last terrorist attack you would think this wouldn't happen again at such an unlikely time and place.

Truly a tragic day, and on a day that is a holiday in Massachusetts.
Hopefully we'll be able to find out who is responsible for this. Thoughts and prayers to the victims and families today.

The Boston Marathon is an international event, and today in Mass. is Patriot Day, celebrating the start of the American Revolution, not just tax day. It would be an incredible coincidence for this holiday not to be related. This is an awful event, and I hope all of the injured and families of those involved are able to see justice served.

I am sure if you have been following this story, you should know this by now, but there was no JFK Library bombing. That was a misreported incident that was not related to the bombings.

I have a friend who is in Boston for the marathon, his mom is running in it. Fortunately, him and his family are all fine, although his mom only finished the marathon about 30 minutes before the bombs went off. This is just so sickening, and it disgusts me that anyone would think something like this could possibly be right, or justifiable, in any way. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragic, tragic event.

I was actually just 2 blocks away from the explosion, and it was very loud, very scary. People were panicking, crying, hugging each other. It was a very sad day.

My English teacher is a marathon runner, and she said that if she had gone like she was supposed to, she would've been right where the bomb was because her qualifying times line up with 4:05.00, just a few minutes before the attack. Also, her family was supposed to be standing at the flags, where the explosion was. She didn't go because her daughter was sick. This one little thing, her daughter getting sick, could've possibly saved their lives.
