Well studies have shown that there are a lot more people smoking weed than ever before. It's become a lot more common in schools and seems to be appearing in younger and younger children. In addition, I bet theres even more people that don't admit it, since their not sure how others will react. Overall, you mom does seem to speak some truth, because several years back, if you were to ask this question, many people to disapprove of it.

Your mum's right, but the number of people doing it doesn't make it fine. :/

Yes, in my opinion. The rapid expansion of knowledge through media (mostly the Internet) has been proving to people that not only is marijuana next to harmless, but beneficial too. As medical marijuana has proven to be effective, more people end up using it. However, despite all of the benefits, it remains illegal in most parts of the world, for who knows what reasons.

lots of people do it, and some do it for health reasons I think..insomnia, loss of appetite, seizure disorders and anxiety stress disorders..so consider that she may be keeping some health issues at bay. Or, she could just be another stoner. But yep, lots of people do it. Doesn't mean it's good though. has like 10x the amount of tar than ciggies do ive heard.

They add tar to cigarettes. No one adds it to marijuana

As told -- more people may be using it now compared to when she or your grandparents were your age. The majority of people are NOT using it and whether people are being open using it -- sadly it's still illegal in MOST of the U.S.

No, maybe there are more users, but that does not make it normal, or legal. especialy if you are raising a child, damn

Yes, more people are smoking weed, but that doesn't make it harmless. It causes brain issues, can cause sterility, and cancer as well. Unfortunately, though, it does seem to be the norm nowadays.

..if it can cause cancer.. why are cancer patients given medicinal marijuana to help with the cancer?

Parents seem to have a whole bunch of strange views on weed, my mom has told me over and over again that she tried weed once and hated it... as I'm typing this she has a pipe on her dresser. XD

I thought that more people smoked weed in the hippie times... but idk.
THe only way to know if she's telling the truth is to ask her. Smoking weed isn't initially bad, but it can cause problems.

It's very common. One study found that over 83 million Americans over the age of 12 have tried it.
It has really become a "norm" for people to smoke marijuana, albeit it's still highly illegal and can have a punishment of 4+ years in prison (prison is worse than jail, yes, there's a difference).

THe only way to know if she's telling the truth is to ask her. Smoking weed isn't initially bad, but it can cause problems. Over 50% of Americans want it legalized, and honestly the legal trouble someone could get in for your trying to "help" them... well, let's just hope they can survive in jail.

Technically, it's illegal everywhere. If the government wanted to prosecute someone in Colorado (for marijuana use), they could and that person will go to jail for drug use.
It's legal on the state level, illegal on the national level.
The government won't bother trying to prosecute those who hold a medical marijuana card (even though medical marijauana card holders could go to prison and could be prosecuted) cause the government knows they're just going to waste time and money, they would rather go after the suppliers and the real drug users.

With my own eyes, I've seen a mental addiction to smoking weed. It soon developed into receiving a high from other drugs, more damaging drugs. It ruined them.
Weed in itself isnt a real bad drug, but it's like putting a bullet in the gun that you're using as a movie prop. You think you're safe because you won't actually pull the trigger, but if you manage to do it, you've killed yourself.
