I don't find anything wrong with this. It's a wonderful opportunity to view the Holocaust from a different point of view. It's a chance for students to think about why the Nazi soldiers would follow orders of mass genocide. It allows students to view patriotism in a much different light.

like Origami said it brings a whole new side to understanding the holocaust. in school we see everything from a Jews perspective. Why not a Nazi soldier eyes. why they killed. there isn't nothing wrong with it. I would highly support this because it makes more sense

Really? So you're saying that most of the history textbooks that we have in this country are published by jews.

When did he say that?

The way she went about giving them the assignment is ridiculous. I would refuse to write this essay as well.
Now if it was to truly look at the Nazi's point of view, like asking for an essay asking why the Nazis did what they did. Not askin the students to write about the evils of jews

You're quick to jump to conclusions.
I'm not saying that the textbooks in this country are published by Jews, but surely there's an American bias to them.

Isn't the 'evils of Jews' why the Nazis did what they did? Do you think they would have committed mass genocide simply because they were told to? They do have their own human nature.

whoa there friend I think you need to slow down. I never said so chill and think about what you are gonna say before you answer. I'm saying in the holocaust the teacher wanted the students had to see why Hitler had his reasons and influenced a whole country to do his bidding he told everyone that Jews were evil. so the paper was about why Jews were evil. there wasn't gonna be any right answers because they were getting thoughts shoved in throat by Hitler himself. there wasn't any reason for this lady to get in trouble because it was a experiment.

Im not jumping into any conclusions, so don't worry.

Why should an essay be one sided? Students should be able to choose what ever aspect they wish. There isn't anything wrong with that.

I see nothing wrong with it either. One time, my Human Geography class had a mock United Nations conference about whether or not Iran was allowed to possess nuclear power. I was in the Iran group, so I had to think of reasons why Iran should have the right to do so. The U.S. and Israel were obviously against my groups' every move, but that day we learned something first hand - there are always two sides to the story. And think about - it's true. Nazis were just brainwashed by government propaganda to believe that Jews were really the enemy. So, in other words, Nazis saw that killing Jews was the right thing to do for their country and the Third Reich. But of course, we (the winners) don't see that side to it, because it's just all evil and we're not supposed to think differently because we're in America, where there has never been a genocide...
Because it's not like American folks have killed millions of Native Americans, right?

It looks absolutely awful at first glance, but have you ever wondered what goes on inside the minds of hated people? This essay will do that.

That's like telling your students, "Write an essay about why all non-Christians are evil scum that deserve to burn in Hell for all eternity." I sure as Hell wouldn't do it.

I understand her logic, but No. The assignment really is just unacceptable. It goes a little too far, and we already have enough crazies to deal with these days

I agree with you.
Especially if the students were older, then they get to see a different view and be mature about it.
Maybe the teacher could of chose a more sensitive title rather than Jews Are Evil however.

I could agree with that. Or even should could ask why the Jews were viewed as evil instead of more or less saying they were.

The people criticizing this teacher should be ashamed. At least she's trying to get her students to actually think, unlike most state employed educators. Devil's Advocacy is one of the best ways to learn about a subject that promotes critical thinking.

I agree it provided a different view point. But I think it was a bit of an extreme essay to assign the class. It does in fact, teach students a different side to patriotism, it shows the students about "blind patriotism", the soldier were blindly following a leader with great charisma.
We always view WWII in the view of the allied power, but never the axis. Most of the citizens were basically brainwashed to follow hitler, just how North Korea brainwashes its citizens.
